That because we married in Italy, it did not count and had to get married here again.

A co-worker also said this to me, thinking that because we got married in Ireland we were not "legally" married! I laughed so hard.

I've also had to deal with the "why are you still living here? Can't you just move to the US and get a job...?

Another weird one was, "So, are you ever going to see your family again once you move to the US or just stay there forever?"

That DOMA falling means that we could have gotten married in Texas. Nope. Doesn't mean that.

That we were silly to wait until after DOMA fell to get married. And we should have just gone through the immigration thing years ago. Uuuuuuuuh. Without DOMA falling, we would be stuck in two different countries for years and years with no immigration pathway (because of her work, leaving the US is much much harder than me going to her). I COULD NOT MOVE TO BE WITH HER UNTIL THEN. So getting married just would have meant a nightmare of international tax issues and the possibility of me not being able to visit her because the border would have suspected me of immigrant intent!

1. That all US borders (land or sea) are porous and pretty much anybody who wants to get in - can.

2. That any foreign born person who marries a US Citizen immediately becomes a USC themselves.

3. That immigrants really can't access food stamps, medicaid and other benefits as easily as the media portrays.

4. That everybody on the rest of the planet isn't dying to get here.

And as for Vj myths..............yeah, it really is worth the wait.

Honestly, the way the media announced DOMA being struck down, it was the impression I got as well. It took some reading for me to realize that wasn't the case.
