Cutting to the chase....after all the work

yes, if she is to take your name, use that on the AOS forms. you can change the SSN card (providing you have enough time on the I94 or once you received EAD or GC) with the marriage certificate.

sounds like it's rather a PITA to change it after AOS has been filed.

I was not clear on this post and I apoligize. Here is the problem:

I was unlucky at the Social Security office. My bride's name is Digna. De la Paz, Rios Gomez.

She wants to go by Digna Rios MyLastName. She was told at SS office that was not possible without court order. She can go by her maiden name, or delete herj 2 last names and take mine, or hyphen them.....Digna, De la Paz, Rios-MYLastName. SS said it had to do with here middle name.......it is on her birth cert and passport......

My maiden name was 4 names long too (First Second Middle MaidenLastName). At the SS office, I changed it to First Second Middle MaidenLastName HusbandsLastName, and when they issued the card, they had dropped 'Middle', and it became First Second MaidenLastName HusbandsLastName.

When I went to get my permit at the DMV, they ended up hyphenating my name... First Second MaidenLastName-HusbandsLastName. They would not drop 'Second' (which I don't use often) because they said this was my middle name (which is not... it is the second part of my first name -- which says so on my birth cert). I wanted to drop my original Middle name, and change my 'Middle' to 'MaidenLastName', and take on my husband's last name as my married name.

Confused yet?

I don't think the American systems have the capability of handling people with more than 3 names: First Middle Last.

They screwed up my name on my NOA for EAD and AOS.. it's been such a headache.. we've decided that we are going to give our kids just 3 names: a first name, my maiden last name as their middle name, and my husband's last name. I don't want them to deal with any of these 'complications' in the future.

I suggest she hyphenate (which I wish I should have done in the first place). It will be less complicated in the future.
