RFE for old tax return HELP

Hi everyone! I got an RFE for my affidavit of support. I have a joint sponser since I'm unemployed and they requested tax returns for years 2010, 2009, and 2008. I only sent a tax return for 2012 so I understand if they want the previous two years as well. Confused why they didn't want 2011? Anyway, here are a couple of questions for you guys, maybe you can help me out...everything applies to my joint sponser if that makes any difference.

1. Why would they want a tax return for 2008? I only put info down for 2012, 2011, and 2010 since my joint sponser hadn't filed 2013 yet. Are they even allowed to ask for anything beyond 2010?

2. I now have a tax return for 2013, is it okay to throw in a copy?

3. Why did they not request 2011's tax return? Makes NO sense to me. Should I send it anyway?

Maybe I should just call on Monday and talk to them about all of this. I just want to fix is ASAP without any more problems!!

Did you write a letter stating why you did not file, leave the spot blank, or write 0?

No matter what happened, I would send a corrected I-864 along with the letter saying why you did not file a return or a copy of that tax return. You can't get a tax transcript for a year you did not file....

On second look, I think they just need info on 2012. Maybe I was reading the checkmarks wrong? RFE's are so confusing for me! Anyway, thanks for the response. I appreciate it.
