Teen immigrant faces deportation for selling pot brownies to buy fancy prom dress

Somehow the child who was poisoned -- yes poisoned -- by this girl's actions to the point that a hospital visit was necessary is being ignored. Look, I am a card-carrying, paid-up, full-on pinko red-diaper baby and child of the union. My father's parents were brought over the southern border over a century ago when there were no border controls, so I am, I suppose, the descendant of undocumented aliens. I am of the hug-a-Messican order, keep 'em here if they're abiding laws and paying taxes. I don't talk about it very much because I have some divergent views that people on both sides of the divide don't dig on -- I don't think undocumented aliens should ever get citizenship but should be eligible for long-term residency permits that aren't full PR status, and I think they should all pay income-proportionate fines. Still, this young woman was convicted of a felony and poisoned a child so she could indulge her fancy of having a lovely prom dress. I wanted one as well but I couldn't afford one, so I borrowed one from my sister-in-law that was five years out of date. I made do, as I was taught, as I'm sure most of us were taught. Is the frippery of one night worth all this? Really?

My librul brethren, come at me bro.

Edit: a missing comma was added for clarity.

I still think you, Val, and Penny are the same person. Just saying.

Yes, but every other country isn't the U.S. always poking it's head in someone else's business telling them how to act when we don't know how to act ourselves. Hypocrites are what we are.

You don't sound happy in the US.

You don't sound happy in the US.

Let me guess. You want me to go back to Africa right?

I want the U.S. to stand up and be the leader it should be. We shake hands with crooks on a daily basis. Look at the Saudis human rights records. They beheaded a 17 year old Sri Lanka girl. They still cut off hands and feet but since we want their oil we are silent. We should be a better example.

This has bothered me for a long time. Even as the USC, my own experiences with the US immigration process (as easy as we've had it) have made me much more sympathetic towards the immigrant community, especially those coming from poorer countries (it was difficult enough to get through this process with steady internet access, a sufficient bank account balance, and a full grasp of the native language). I expected this from other people here as well but it seems to me the attitude is "well, if I haven't had it easy, nobody should!" I mean, when I'm in another country I do my damnedest to follow their rules to the T and not stick out either, but that doesn't mean I lose all compassion when dealing with "foreigners" back home.

I know people who got busted selling weed in high school. No one ever went crazy about it. There was no "think of the children!" reaction, no one ever brought up product quality control or branded them "drug dealer" as if they were hardened criminals, and they never faced anywhere near the punishment this girl might possibly face. In fact, most people just laughed about it.

Thank you! Your post is right on point!!!

But we have some goody shoes VJers who act like they did not have "drug dealers" in their school. I see the Pinocchio syndrome on VJ.

Trust me when I tell you, Postmaster isn't like that.

Ok. Marv says you don't want me to go back to Africa.

Mobility is a wonderful thing. There are many, many wonderful places in the world to work and pay taxes, rather than support indirectly a regime that acts counter to your interests.

So, are you happy with the way things are happening in the U.S.?

I am doing what I can to restore Alta California as an independent nation within its historic borders.

You know, if you had just thrown in the phrase, "religion of peace" you would have sounded just like some other posters here.

Whoa.

I think Janelle is still learning her way around here. When I first arrived, I thought Postmaster was the same way with his critique of Obama, but after many conversations, I was proved wrong thankfully.

And I have come to accept your nuanced way of looking at the world as well. (It didn't take long).

Haha restore Altal California as an independent nation.

Well, they want Texas to succeed from the U.S. I must say, if it does, I definitely will leave. I don't think I could stay here.

Whoa.

Hey, I hear this so much I had to check and be sure that wasn't what he was implying. You have no idea how much I hear this per week.

I have to always ask the question, but which country in Africa should I go back to? lol

Hey, I did not say that!!! Don't imply something I did not imply. I am talking about government level corruption. Ok. :protest:

A little bit. His bit is more comical, but you have to sift through the madness in order to figure it out. There are a few here that play the role, but at the end of the day, they're either doing it for fun or just to get a rise out of folks.

And I have come to accept your nuanced way of looking at the world as well. (It didn't take long).

Wait, did you, in a round about way, just insult me? It's because I'm black. Reported.

I think that was a pretty big leap to make, but alright.
