The US government is watching you.

Can't argue with that one they are watching all of us lol.

On a serious note it would be nice to think people were deterred from fake marriages out of a sense of morality and not wanting to fool a USC rather than a fear of the consequences. Whenever I read about a USC who has fallen in love and not realised it's a scam I really feel for them, except for the ones who go looking for another foreign spouse again immediately without learning from it.

A sponsoring US citizen can be fined $250,000.00 and five years in a federal prison plus get stuck with a 10 year I-864 paying 25% above poverty in a fake marriage. Would think I would want more than 1,500 bucks to get involved with something like this, more like a couple of million bucks.

That I-751 ROC form is nothing short of a bad joke, has more loopholes in it than you can shake a stick at. For us, would have been much easier if my wife claimed I abused her rather than sending in a ton of evidence that we had a valid marriage.

And if a US citizen is a victim of fraud, is flat screwed, USCIS is not there to protect them. Whole system is way overdue for a major overhaul.

Yeah right. I know of 2 people who got their green card with a fake marriage. USCIS probably knows some marriages are fake and they don't care.

They do care. They just have not gotten caught yet. Sometimes it takes years to catch these people.

i agree. I believe these scammers are making difficult for the people who have real marriages. This process is grueling and can be cruel. I blame it primarily on people who scam to get visas.

IF you are worried about being scammed, a significant age difference is probably a red flag.. I agree with the poster that mentiones people being scammed and then jumping right to another foreign spouse marriage. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... well.

People do get away with it. If she wasn't so brazen with the pay for marriage thing and did it the good old fashioned way by meeting somebody online and pretending you love them and don't want the green card, it's much harder to prove.

The system is ripe for abuse and does get abused.

Good luck!

She was pretty daring, and stupid of her to keep up the farce

when he backed out....That man was not going to keep a DV

on his name due to her , which she needed for the police to approved/certify

I 918B to file vawa and have VT approved it,

some get caught when they apply to naturalize. also stories are out there that

some men get paid, but wants the women to give up some , when they wont

they say well I amgoing to tell the marriage is not consummated at the interview

samming open doors to abuses & makes it bad for others . Se will go back to

Kenya

Makes you wonder what percentage of VAWA claims are legit.

I assumed about half just from seeing what comes up on VJ.

Now it would seem that as the numbers are very large then some must be caught, however in the scheme of things tiny.
