Entry stamps in US passports

I have a US Passport and used to live near the US/Canadian border and would go to Canada about once a month. I never had my passport stamped when I entered Canada by land. However, I did get my passport stamped when I came into the US by air.

My brother-in-law has a Canadian passport and got it stamped when entering the US by air.

I always go through the Champlain land crossing and they've only ever stamped my passport once while heading back to Canada (the guy seemed to enjoy it a lot). The only time I ever got a stamp for visiting the US was at JFK coming from Germany, where they stamped "B2" with a expiration date of 6 months ahead. I was heading back to Canada by land again where I asked to get my passport stamped so there would be a corresponding exit stamp for that B2 thing.. I also asked them why they don't regularly do stamp and the guy told me there wasn't enough ink in the world to stamp all the Canada-US crossings they get, so they only do it when asked

I am so glad to have read this post...I had my AOS interview Mar 19 in Phoenix. My AOS is pending because the officer who interviewed us was requested to submit my past passports. I am from Canada and the reason was she wanted to see the entry stamps of the years 2008-2009. I explained to her that although I worked in the US on a TN Visa, I still went home to Canada to visit due to still having family there. I explained to her that I have never had my passport stamped on entry and that my passport had no stamps and my US born husband and our kids as well did not have theirs stamped either! She did not believe me! This officer was very rude and intimidating. Long story short, my lawyer submitted the RFE the following monday on March 24th and now still waiting....everything was approved the EAD and I 130. I hate this waiting game!

I just hope it gets approved soon!

I always got my passport stamped whenever we flew into Philadelphia...always, every single time. When we arrived back to the US in November, we flew into Boston....and neither my USC daughter or myself got our passports stamped. I didn't notice until I NEEDED proof that my daughter came back with me. For some strange reason, the social security office assumed I had left my 15 year old behind in the UK alone. I was shocked to see no stamp....and they didn't believe me in the office that our passports hadn't been stamped. What a pain. I had to get a letter from the airline proving we flew into Boston on the date that I claimed.

I'm a USC with a US passport, and I've crossed back into the US three times, all by air. Only my first trip back in ~2006 did I get a stamp. In 2012 and 2013 I didn't get a stamp. In 2012 I noticed this and even went up to a CBP agent and asked about it, and he said they don't usually stamp USC passports.

The POE's were Atlanta (2006, stamp), Atlanta (2012, no stamp), and Newark (2013, no stamp).

I have a number of stamps from my travels over the last 5 years to see my husband in the US. They are random - sometimes I would get a stamp and sometimes not. When my father was dying in the US in 2012, I went back and forth numerous times and it was stamped everytime at my US POE(always air). I wonder if when they scan your passport they see something that says how many times you've been in the US in that year?? Maybe that's why they stamped each time??

Not counting a border crossing returning from a day trip to Niagara Falls when I was a kid and when the CBP agent just boarded the bus/van and asked if everyone was a USC, all of my entries have been by air. I received a stamp at the pre-clearance in Bermuda and every time I've come back from Colombia (POE Orlando). I just assumed it was automatic but, yeah, it's somewhat hit or miss.

As a Canadian I've had my passport stamped TWICE travelling to the USA. Once in my old one and once in my new one. The only time I've travelled to the USA via land was when I moved here (I guess thrice if you count that stamp.) All other times were by air. Been to Hawaii twice, Las Vegas twice, and Colorado 4 times before moving and after passports were required (went to California for 3 months before then.)

I never got stamped on my US passport so I think it depends on the officer. It could be that they enter your info in the computer is enough without needing the passport stamp. You can ask officer to stamp your passport next time at Passport Control.

I requested my records from CBP last July and they sent me an email that says they denied my request. However, I received a package in mail from CBP that contains all my trips in and out of US.

How long did it take you to get your CBP records? We asked for my wife's in December and are still waiting.

I requested the record on July 2013 and I got a package last month so it took 8 months for me.
