Nancy Pelosi: 'Race Has Something To Do With' Delay On Immigration Reform

According to the links posted, I see that the Chinese who are coming over to US to have US citizen kids, are paying like $30,000 for child-bearing trip to the US.

So how much are the fence-jumping people paying for anchor babies here?

Asians abuse the system as much as any other immigrant without means, the Chinese amongst them are no exception. Abuse is not linked to any one specific ethnic group.

Wasn't there a story about women waiting until their last trimester to try and fly here so their kids could be American and they could stay?

We know the Republicans does not like anything darker than a piece of paper. Look at what Bush did to that boat of Haitian refugees that time.

There are a lot of reasons you may dislike George W. Bush, but please don't try to claim he is racist:

The George W. Bush Presidential Library dedication brought together five living presidents who have been at odds about much of the 43rd president’s foreign policy legacy, particularly the Iraq war. But they all agreed on, and offered effusive praise for, Bush’s work on Africa.

From the historic peace agreement between Sudan and South Sudan in 2005, to Bush’s work on HIV/AIDS and malaria, all the presidents, regardless of party, thanked No. 43 for his involvement in African policies and issues.

Jimmy Carter — who now runs the Carter Center, a non-profit organization whose mission is to fight for human rights, conflict resolution and global health in the world’s most impoverished countries — laid out Bush’s accomplishments, including increasing aid to the continent by more than 640% by the time he left office.

“Mr. President, let me say that I’m filled with admiration for you and deep gratitude for you about the great contributions you’ve made to the most needy people on Earth,” said Carter.

At more than $5 billion a year in humanitarian aid to Africa, President Bush has given more assistance to the continent than any other president. His administration’s aid was largely targeted to fight the major global health issues facing the continent, HIV/AIDS and malaria.

In 2003 Bush founded the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which guaranteed $15 million to be spent over the course of five years on prevention, treatment and research on HIV/AIDS. Under the Bush administration, the U.S. was also a leader in contributing to the Global Fund on AIDS.

Though there was controversy over some of the qualifications for PEPFAR funds –up to 20% was to be spent on abstinence-focused prevention programs, and the funds could not be used for needle-sharing programs — most HIV/AIDS activists credit the program for being instrumental in turning the tide on AIDS.

Before PEPFAR, an estimated 100,000 people were on anti-retroviral drugs in sub-Saharan Africa. By the time Bush left office in 2008 that number had increased to about 2 million.

In 2005 Bush started a $1.2 billion initiative to fight malaria. He defended the request for funding in 2007, saying, “There’s no reason for little babies to be dying of mosquito bites around the world.”

At Thursday’s ceremony, President Clinton said in his travels throughout Africa he had “personally seen the faces of some of the millions of people who are alive today” because of Bush’s policies.

Even some of Bush’s most ardent critics have admitted that his foreign policy legacy on Africa continues to have a lasting effect.

U2 front-man and activist Bono, who criticized Bush on the Iraq War, nonetheless expressed his admiration for the Republican president on an appearance on the Daily Show last year, telling Stewart that Bush did an “amazing” job in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

“I know that’s hard for you to accept,” Bono said to a surprised crowd and host, “but George kind of knocked it out of the park. I can tell you, and I’m actually here to tell you that America now has 5 million people being kept alive by these drugs. That’s something that everyone should know.”

Since leaving office the former president and his wife, Laura, have continued to stay active in global health issues in Africa, now taking on cancer. The George W. Bush Institute has launched the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon initiative to try and bring together both public and private investment to fight cervical and breast cancer in Africa and Latin America. The couple launched the program on a visit to Zambia and Bostwana in July of last year.

That's because Hispanic are the only ones who get this stigma. Asians, Europeans, and others who use less than ethical means to come here aren't called Illegal aliens.

Well, I study the reports from ICE and BIA, and it's not only 'hispanic' folk that are deported. 'Asians' and Europeans are in that mix, as well, even the percentages are lower. But they're in there.

WASHINGTON -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had some harsh words Thursday for Republicans who won't allow a vote on comprehensive immigration reform, saying she believes it would be an easier haul for the GOP if undocumented immigrants were mostly from somewhere like Ireland.

"I think race has something to do with the fact that they're not bringing up an immigration bill," she said at her weekly press conference. "I've heard them say to the Irish, 'If it were just you, this would be easy.'"

Pelosi and other Democrats have urged House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to allow a vote on an immigration bill that has support from a majority of the Democratic caucus and three GOP members.

So far, they haven't had any luck: Boehner promised a piecemeal process, if anything, and has said passing even smaller-scale legislation could be difficult given distrust of the president within the Republican conference. Despite releasing principles for reform in January, there have been no votes on immigration legislation since then.

Pelosi said she believes the bill would pass if Boehner allowed a vote.

"Let's have a debate," she said. "We think the votes are there. We're absolutely certain that they're there."

While undocumented immigrants are not all Latino, a majority of removals last year were of Mexican nationals, making it a high-priority issue for many Latino groups.

Pelosi also spoke about the need to change deportation policy, which the Obama administration is currently considering. She said she supports recommendations put forward last week by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, which include halting deportations of undocumented immigrants who would qualify for legal status under the Senate-passed immigration reform bill.

Just want to make sure I understand:

If you have a D next to your name, and don't support illegal aliens, then that's fine.

If you have an R next to your name, and don't support illegal aliens, then you're racist.

I'm talking about supporting reform.

But you summed this up nicely. lol

For people who were bought here as a kid, I applaud them for stepping forward, applying for the proper visa to stay here in the U.S. and being allowed a path to citizenship.

I do not support illegal aliens. Their parents are not on my good list.

She is just stating the obvious. We know the Republicans does not like anything darker than a piece of paper. Look at what Bush did to that boat of Haitian refugees that time.

And for your information, the Chinese do illegal things when it comes to migrating to the U.S. as well. You don't hear any complaints about them.

Uhm, I do hear complaints about them. But not on this web portal. Elsewhere, you betcha. IMO, if a loophole exists, a Chinese person will move heaven and earth to take advantage of it. If you study the racial epiteph 'Fook' outside of this website, there's tons of references about illegal Chinese. Sure, I loathe their presence and attempts to hang on in the USA, as it erodes the USA employment base.

and fwiw, I've been aware of the Pregnant Women travel industry, about 7 years now. I don't write about it here, as the audience mostly seems a waste of time, to me. The folk that do that are usually rich, and set this up to ensure their comfortable retirement in the USA, using the child as their petitioner after age 21.

Which is why they should receive the same title. You never hear a Chinese, Japanese, PI, or any other Asian called illegal. What's sad is the hispanic folks that were born here get that title just based on skin color alone.

Do the Chinese pay for the Child birth out of their own packets or use free Medicaid?

They are still cheating the system to get visas here.

They do not declare they are pregnant nor when they do their interviews declare their plans are to have a baby in the U.S.

Then they come here and have their babies. They are trained how to hide their pregnancies.

Unbelievable. Cheating is cheating no matter the race or the country.

And you are aware of what he did in Africa?

Like what? I was busy focusing on his lies of WMD, his killing innocent women and children in Iraq so his family could get richer.

I view Madame Pelosi's attempt at making it 'racial' as her final attempt of trying to get stuff done.

Why? Nothing else she's tried has worked. Nothing.

IMO, this isn't a D or R problem, it's an American problem. Politicians who cater to the illegal alien demographic, IMO, should be taken out and shot. Extreme? Not at all. I'm tired of the perpetuation of the eroding of the USA employment base, and these politicians supporting illegal aliens are helping it along, knowingly or unknowingly.

Once upon a time, folk of my age group would work during the summer breaks, making enough money for college tuition for fall and spring term, in the farming and construction industries. It's not been possible for them this century, as the workforce is full of illegal aliens . Sure, the flipping burgers gig still exists, but that's a subsistence wage.

I posted some info: I think you'll be surprised and, if honest, very impressed with what he has done.

Respectfully, Marvin, I do hear it. Daily and weekly. I'll suggest you and I move in different circles in the USA. That's it, that's all.

I never "claimed" he was racist.

He just don't want a lot of brown paper bag colors in the U.S. Some people are into the whole pure race thing. And they can if they want to. It their beliefs.

And so what if he got a couple of praises for one thing (gave some money) he did in Africa while slaughtering thousands of others including Americans.

Nice link Janelle. Be prepared for the haters.

So someone pointing out the Democrat's blatant attempt to get more registered Democrats makes them hater? Interesting.

ETA. Kudos to her for playing the race card. Al and Jesse have taught her well.
