Hello everyone,

I was curious to know if there is anyone here in VJ who is working in software developer field. I am new here I got my GC on November 2013 through F2B category. I went back to my home country to marry my gf and spend some time with her I filled for her an I130 and I am planning to really start looking for work in June.

Can anyone tell me how that field is in term of salary and how much time will take me to find a job? I will be living in Virginia and I will mainly target the area of DC and Dulle aeroport for work. I have a 6 years experience in Java/J2EE, TIBCO and JRules in France. Does it count my foreign experience or will they consider me as a junior?

Thank you guys for your answers.

My husband is in software development and it is tough these days because of outsourcing. A lot of those types of jobs are going to India or China now.

There are still places hiring but the competition might be steeper.

good luck

He works in Georgia. There is still software development jobs here because it is a "right to work" state, meaning no unions. What sort of job are you looking for? consulting? Sales? Simple coding?

good luck

Much of the work still in the US is the type that requires you to be a USC. It is so much cheaper to send the rest of the work to the countries mentioned above. Maybe try one of the big multinational companies like SAP

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

You can look for salaries at salary.com. How long it takes it up to the availability and up to you. Each company will decide for themselves, but they should accept your foreign experience if it was comparable in quality. You can look for jobs online now to see how many there are and what things they are looking for.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
