So I was just reading through the NVC guidelines and found the scary section on SINGLE VS MARRIED TAX FILING.

And it made me realize I had a question.

My wife's taxes were filed at the same time as we were married. Like. We got married and two weeks later, her taxes were filed--she was working on her taxes during our trip. For a fiscal year in which she had not been married.

Should she have filed them as married? If she did not, should she have them amended?

Plz don't worry its OK I called nvc few times then consulated a lawyer too. U can always amned ur taxes later there will b no issue even I went to IRS office and told abt situation when one spouse is not phiscally present .they gave me written confirmation that u can amned taxes when ur wife will b here.so in any case if officer ask which they never as told by nvc operator every time u can show IRS letter.so don't worry

I know that they can amend the taxes. I'm trying to find out if that's something we need to do, because I'm not entirely clear on whether they should have been filed as married or not, is all.

U call nvc and they will let u know believe me everybody goes through this situation and officer knows too best option 4 u will b to call nvc and they will tell u same thing as I have called them many times regarding this question

Marital status for tax year 2013 is determined by her status on the last day of that year, Dec. 31, 2013. Her marital status for tax year 2013 is not determined by when she files in 2014.

Your wife is right. Way to go. Setting the tone for the marriage. Lol.

Oh, we hadn't even debated it. I just thought I'd double check the information and let her know if there was an issue. She's in the middle of some super tough exams for grad school and I didn't want to bother her if there was no reason to.
