learned that we need to wait 6 months to get NSO marriage certs.my wife has one currently she got a few weeks after we got married.next month will make six months.should we use the marriage cert she has now or just wait until next month and get more to start her visa?we want to get the process started.

You can bring the documentation from your marriage to the NSO office yourselves, and they will register it. There's no need to wait.

I'm not sure what we needed - it was a few years back. Probably. I would post this question to the Philippines specific subforum here on VJ.

my wife told me its been registered its just a mandatory 6 month waiting period.we didnt know about the expedition of it and since its a month left i dont know if its worth expediting it now.hmmi wasnt sure if we should just the one she has or wait..the one she has now is the one she got i think 3 weeks after we got married

The 6 month period to wait for the marriage certificate to be registered on the NSO is mandatory. The one that you guys have is the marriage certificate you both signed during the civil/church wedding whichever case and that one is the one forwarded to the local civil registrar where you got married. The local civil registrar is the one to forward your marriage entry to the NSO office. HOWEVER, you may do so too but this won't give you an edge or an expedite. When NSO says it is going to be 6 months, it definitely is. The one you're holding right now is okay to send when you first file the petition I-130 IR-1/CR-1 HOWEVER, the NSO copy will be needed after you get approval and your case will be at the NVC stage. i know there has been some that paid extra and had it expedited.i have connections and could probably still get it done but i decided im going to wait out the month.plus my wife hasnt gotten everything together yet and we need to get her passport as well.a month will go by fast and this gives me more time to get other things taken care of

You can request a certified true copy of your marriage certificate from the Local Civil Registry (LCR). You can send that together with the i130.

The NSO MC will be needed later on in the NVC stage and if your wife will renew her passport into her married name.

Hmm, I'm not convinced there's a 6 month mandatory waiting period. There wasn't for us. We got married October 23, 2009. By mid-February, my son had his US passport, which we applied for I believe in early January of 2010, for which we needed the NSO marriage document.....

We only waited 3 months. Could not remember if they said it would be 2 or 3 months, so we went with 3, and it was available.

The lcr did have us come in after the wedding to "certify" everything, there are others that we know of that did not go in to certify, and it took much longer for them.

Btw, don't forget you'll need CFO to get the passport in the married name if married to a foreigner in the philis.

My wife was able to expedite the Marriage Contract to NSO by having a certified copy of the LCR contract sent by LBC to NSO, then picking it up herself. It was almost two months between the LCR, then NSO, then CFO, until she had not only our NSO Certified copy, but also her passport in her married name. It takes a little money and some leg work, but on average it takes six months if you don't do it yourself.

The 6-month waiting period is the "normal" waiting time that the LCR will tell you UNLESS you apply for an ADVANCE ENDORSEMENT.
