I have a question, the NVC received my husbands approved NOA2 on March 10, 2014. We are now waiting on the next step in the process, which I believe is filing for the DS-160 Visa application. My question is this. After then DS-160 application they start the applications for the financial sponsors, at least this is my understanding from the NVC website. I am an American born citizen and I would like to sponsor my husband. I am concerned about if I am going to be able to sponsor my husband. When me and my husband were married I moved to Morocco and lived there for over year. I am now back in the States and working but I did not file taxes for 2013 due to no income. Can someone tell me if it is possible for me to sponsor my husband or if I am going to have to find someone else since I have not worked for 3 years. Does anyone know how the new guidelines for financial sponsor work?

Thanks so much :energy:

How long have you been working back in the USA, and is it a stable, permanent job?

You can probably sponsor if it is a good job and you have a few months paystubs and maybe a letter from the employer.

I am sorry I just realized that my post was not clear. I have work 2011 and 2012, and would meet the income guidelines for those years. But I did not work in 2013 at all, so I have no income. I have since started working as of January 1, 2014 and my job is stable and I will make the income guidelines for 2014, God willing. Does this help to clarify?

What you are currently making is more important than what you did or didn't make last year.

Current income is not what is on your w2 or tax return. It is how much you make per pay period gross x pay periods per year.

Oh that is good news. I have been really worried about this. Do you know what I am going to have to prove income. Do pay check stubs work, or will I need some other type of documentation from my employer? I know that I will have to fill out the financial application but they ask for proof of income I am sure. Any idea what I should be prepared for, we are really close to this step.

pay stubs and/or a letter from your employer stating who you are, what your position is, and what your yearly salary would be.

Thanks for the correction. I am still waiting to hear from the NVC. They received our case on 03/10/14 but when I call they tell me they dont have it in the computer yet so they can not tell me anything. I am really not sure what my next step is here. They wont even take my email address so that we can get stuff electronoically... I guess we are just stuck in terminal hold !! Hopefully something will come through soon.

You have to wait for case numbers. Takes from 10-30 days.

have you read the NVC wiki??

That is correct but the OP also has the order of business at NVC backwards. You CAN wait to submit the affidavit of support AFTER the DS260 but the efficient way to get through NVC is to submit it as soon as the AOS fee is paid, which will always be BEFORE NVC is ready for the DS260.
