USA, Myanmar, Liberia

(..........)

Front of the short bus special. :D

Well, Liberia was founded by America - a magical land we spread much freedom to, right?

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

Awkward moment of the day:

(Background if'n you don't know already: I left my old job because I was passed over for the Communications Assistant job I applied for. They asked me to do the job for two months while they hired someone- sweet consolation prize, dicks- and then asked me to "train in" their new-hire. Their new-hire is the most unprofessional little t-wat I've ever had the displeasure of meeting and literally had no idea what he was doing. He called me one day to ask me how to make a post on Facebook. Okay.)

Scene I. The break room. Lunch time.

HR Lady: Elspeth, I sat across from your old director and his assistant at a conference yesterday! They said to say hi. What's his name...Derrick...Duane....De...?

Elspeth: Devin? (Mild contempt shows through.)

HR Lady: Yes, the guy who got the job you wanted!

Elspeth: Yes. (Contempt.) No hard feelings, though! (Lies.)

Scene II. Brain. Cranial Cavity.

Elspeth: #### why did I say that omg I am so dumb.

Brain: Yeah, you're really dumb.

*Fin*

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

This reminds me... I asked my husband "How many yards in a mile?"

He says "Well there are 5XXX feet... divide that by 3."

I say "#######?! Why such a stupid number?"

He says "yes the metric system with 10's is easier but apparently it would be too much work to change over."

I say "You mean too many people who are resistant to change."

Him "Something like that."

/shakes head. Stupid imperial system. US doesn't want to be part of Britain but wants to continue to use the oldest system ever invented, by the British. /head thinks about exploding.

Next you're gonna want 100 keys on a piano? 10 strings on a guitar? huh? Huh?

Do they sell 10 eggs in Canada? 50 gallons of crude in 1 barrel? (You wish)

how bout we call Heinz and insist they have 100 varieties?

And all gasoline sold in America must be 80, 90 or 100 octane?

while we're at it.....why is gold 24K? lets make it 100k?

And lets have 10 day weeks, and 50 day months, 10 months a year!

Now you leave my imperial system alone! I like it just fine! Hmph......

I really don't understand why people want to skip out on a month at the NVC to have it cost them MORE time to get the green card, MORE time to citizenship, and MORE money? I get the people from Vancouver for whom it would costs just as much money to fly to Montreal as it would to adjust their status. That I understand, but the rest, where the interview would be in the same place regardless?

please explain this to me?

LOL we call it a 4 Litre. and 2 Litre of milk. Hubs looks at me funny when I say "can you pick up a 2L of milk..." LOL

Imperial system is not how we tell time, have days, hours or minutes, karats of gold, or why you can sell a dozen eggs..

Imperial system is inches, feet, yards, and miles. That is what I'm referring to. Weight, volume, and length. That's it.

We won't even go into the F vs Celcius because there a tonne of other ways to tell temperature for things.
