I pick the second option. I've never had one break that wasn't so darn old it should be replaced anyways. You swap out the pump, next thing you know its leaking out the door or somewhere else.

Me too.. If the appliance is old, just get a new one that matches the others and move on...

It is only 5 years old, actually the newest appliance in the kitchen! Consumer Reports says to replace a broken dishwasher that age rather than fix it and I concur.

re: dishwasher loading.

Huh? Take out all of the clean dishes from the cabinents,

show yer spouse how to load using the clean dishes,

and walk/run away.

Usually folk are tired by the time the dishes are dirty, or in need of a nap.

Try it my way, twice, and report back, when able.

Proper dishwasher loading in something I have OCD over. That and multiple switches for the same light. Drives me crazy when pushing down turn the light on.

My thoughts are, if you wanna be OCD over something its fine, as long as you take care of it yourself and don't expect others to adopt your OCDness.

I never had one die that early. Dang things always last me like 20 years. I keep hoping my current one breaks so I have an excuse to replace it, but the dang thing keeps working.

It just makes a grrrrrrrr-ing noise when I try to start it.

Any thoughts?

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Jammed pump or a failed float switch, so its trying to empty water when it doesn't have any. Which will also eventually burn out the pump. Put water in it, if it pumps water, then its likely the float switch.

The previous dishwasher was only 3 years old when it broke with a different issue, but it was a POS that the previous owner had only put in to sell the house. It definitely was not worth the repair bill.

Then sounds like you got too fancy of one to replace it. The more bells and whistles something like that has, the more there is to go wrong with them.

Boy you guys :ranting: Glad I went back to bed this morning

I have 4 dishwashers, they fight all the time and the dishes sometimes needs to be rewashed but heck I'm not doing it so

I can see loading the dishwasher causing problems, my husband drives me nuts the way he folds the laundry. But I try really hard to not complain because he likes to help me and well it's one of the few things he helps with.

Now I'm late getting our pool set up so I need to go prep the ground soon as baby falls back to sleep. And I still need to figure out supper?

Does figuring out what's for dinner mean a drive and scoping the road for what's fresh?

I can make dinner three night in a row, and only need to run the dishwasher once. My wife in one meal for two people can fill that dishwasher to the max. She's a great cook though, so I'm not really complaining. I just don't understand how there's 8 plates used for dinner for two. As you might be able to tell, I do all the dishes in the house. She've never learned to organise a dishwasher with any efficiency, so her loading it ends up her dinners take two loads or a stack of hand washed beside the dishwasher.

Sounds like Mrs. T-B., sigh man...

She will use paper plates for casual company, but sometimes has to be reminded of that.

I kid you not; I read somewhere the #1 reason couples fight is over the arrangement of dishes in the dishwasher.

If you can find this, I'd be intensely interested in seeing it.

Since Mrs. T-B.'s return from Ecu, she's been at least moderately better about not abusing the loading of the dishwarsher (Texas spelling). This is chiefly because she's warshing (T. spelling) more by hand, I presume to lighten my dishwarshing (T. sp.) load.
