From my understanding the Affordable Care act mandates that folks get health insurance.

But someone on a K1 visa, who is now married, but hasn't received the green card.... would they be required to? Is there any guidance on this?

Thanks for your responses in advance guys!

Has the person in question applied for their green card yet? Do they have EAD?

Most people put their spouse on their employer plan if they can. Why would you wait? Forget the law, it protects your spouse to have insurance for them.

Do it today.

I am able to get health insurance on healthcare.gov (can't get on my husband's as he is a student and is covered under his parents until he is 26 or graduates). It has been a huge hassle though, still haven't got it, I am able to still get it because I started my application before the 31st. Have been having problems confirming my identity, because I have no credit here. I had to mail in some stuff like copies of my SSN , visa, etc. If you can't get on your husbands you can see if you can still get that. I don't have my EAD yet, just my SSN & it didn't seem to be an issue.
