Hi! Having a lawyer doesn't make things quicker tbh, it's really a case by case thing so its hard & wrong to compare your case with another. I find myself doing it & I get upset (like today I saw someone with a last scan date of 9/12 & got a case complete, yet people are waiting since April scan dates for CC). So that's my advice, try not to compare your case with others.....but having a lawyer doesn't really speed things up. :) We've been at the NVC since July.

Hello Bossbear,

You mentioned 'both together only because we have a lawyer'. I wanted to know, does having a lawyer reduce the number of days at NVC?

I understand that if checklist etc. happens, then wait will obviously increase, but if we are continuing the same lawyer from I-130, does it reduce few days at DS-261 step or at any other step?

So we just got approved yesterday. What's next? I noticed some people are saying to call the NVC in a couple wks for a case number. Will they mail the case number to me......with instructions on how/when to pay fees? Or does everyone have to call and get the case number. This is all so confusing. I really dont care to be calling NVC daily or anything. I guess my question is: Is there a letter that comes in the mail with the case number and instructions?

Congratulations. Here's a thorough outline in what to expect. It's grueling & long & they will send a welcome letter & email if you supplied your email addy.

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process#Step_6_-_IV_Package

Always check on the NVC site for changes though. Like now the AOS package & IV package must be mailsd together. Before they could be sent seprately. I sent them seperate and like 3 weeks later they changed it stating they MUST be mailed together or it will delay your case. Good luck!

That is a funny typo. Don't pee the fees!!!

My wife isn't home from work yet to actually pay them but I checked and I'm pretty sure both are unlocked. They both have the checkbox when I click on PAY NOW and I can click on either and it takes me to the actual payment page. You just can't pay both of them at the same time for some reason. I hope she gets home soon. I've never been this excited to lose $445...

This is pretty normal. :( The two times I called I had to redial about 50 times (actually 50 times, not exaggerating) and then I was on hold for 50 to 70 minutes.

I just noticed that I have a couple typos lol

I ve checked a couple times I got nothing so far. I m just confused how much to pay since they changed it. Does it tell you how much you have to pay for each?

Yeah, the amount is already there on the page and on the invoice (you get to select them and pay). It's $120 for AOS and $325 for IV so $445 total since they increased on 9/12. :( Hopefully it means faster processing!

I'm not sure anyone on this thread is at the medical stage yet, but no, you have to go to a specific doctor that the embassy approves for the medical, not just any doctor. For Argentina for example there are only two doctors and they're both in Buenos Aires. Some people have to travel far for the medical. You can check the Medical Exam Instructions for your particular embassy here at the NVC website: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/prepare/medical-examination.html

yeah im looking at that so they list the doctors which is good so as soon as I get the NOA2 I should send him there? or wait until we get case complete at NVC? just wondering since I think it last 6months when does everyone normally go get that done?

I'm not entirely sure about this but I believe you need to wait until you have a case complete at the NVC in order to do the medical (interview takes about 1 to 2 months from case complete, so there's time, and that's when most people do it). Some embassies allow it before you have a case complete but not all, I think. At the very least you need the NVC case number so I don't think you can do it right after NOA2 (also there would be the danger of it expiring if you have trouble at NVC).

You can get the necessary shot at your regular doctor. You need to have the interview letter to get the medical done since the medical is just valid for 6 months. :-)

I thought so too, since they increased it but it doesn't really seem like or they still have trouble since they had the glitch with their system in july
