Hello,

I'd like to know how many people used Immigration Attorneys for their marriage-based green card process and interview. I have researched this process for over a year and I'm familiar with the required documents to petition for my spouse. A friend recommends that I consult an Attorney prior to filing, but I can't afford one at the moment although everything seems perfect right now, God willing.

Please drop a "It's necessary" /or/ "Not necessary" if you think we all need to have Attorneys present at these interviews and why (if you don't mind). If you did, how did it help you?
P.S - I've read almost every post/interview experience on this and other related sites. Whew!

Thanks.

Not needed.....we even thought maybe we would need one but certainly couldn't afford it. We had no checklists, no RFE's, nothing. My husband arrived in the states just under a year since we filed. You just have to be diligent and thorough with everything! We succeeded!! :)

If your case is straightforward, there is really nothing extra an attorney will add if you can read and follow the guides/instructions correctly.

I went to an attorney before I started my K-1 process, and the amount of money they charge for just filling out forms and compiling a packet is ridiculous. ($1500 for each step x3 = $4500)

Not necessary.

Hey ! Welcome !

Remember, you found the DIY Immigrate to USA WebSite, with an Emphasis on 'Y' and 'D'.

Check out the Guides Section, see if what you've learned/compiled matches what we've put up. The Guides here are peer-reviewed, and mostly current.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

You don't need anyone, my wife and I also did it all on our own. Printed the forms, read the instructions, made sure we complied and provided every piece of information they needed; if something is missing they will just send you a RFE and give you a month or tow to get it (we forgot a tax return for example, we sent it within 2 weeks). We easily passed the whole thing, you can do the same. Best of luck to you guys!
