Hello VJers -

I'm looking for clarification on the difference between the Chicago lockbox and all the other centers. Does an AOS get approved in Chicago or does it get transferred elsewhere? I sent my application today, so all I have left now is pray that everything goes smooth. I already have a job lined up and everything....

Chicago just disseminates all the petitions to the areas they need to go to. If you sent everything to the Chicago lockbox, you are good to go.

Nothing happens at Chicago. It's a mailbox.

All packages go to the National Benefits Center in Missouri. They distribute AOS petitions to the appropriate district offices for adjudication. EAD's and AP's stay in Missouri for adjudication.

I dont quite understand your question. There is only one place to send an I-485 petition and that is the Chicago Post Office Box, unless you live in Dallas, El Paso, or Oklahoma City areas, they are of a special program (DORA)

See instructions on I-485 page of USCIS Site they specifically state that Chicago is where you send I-485 for family based applications.

Family-Based Applications

If you are filing for lawful permanent resident status based on a family relationship with a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent

resident, file your I-485 at:

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

Also instructions included with form I-765 indicates to send to Chicago Po Box for family based I-485 pending petitions.
