Going to my interview next week. Anything I should know/bring?

So my I-485 AOS interview is next week. I was just wondering if there is anything I should know or prepare for in advance as far as the interview goes? Is it like on TV where they try to find out if our marriage is legitimate or is it something entirely different?

Also, it asks me to bring a few things such as my I693 medical examination form (unless already submitted), my I-864 and supporting tax documents etc(unless already submitted). Is it recommended I bring these even though I already submitted them?

The 3rd to last item on the list is "Original and copy of each supporting document that you submitted with your application. Otherwise we may keep your originals for our records". What is this in reference to? I submitted things such as marriage certificate, my wife and co-sponsor's taxes, my wife's birth certificate, my birth certificate. Do I need to bring those and a copy of each as well?

thanks for all the help!

WOW! how exciting your interview is almost here. :) Yes you do need to bring ALL the originals of the things that you submitted. Most definitely the ORIGINAL marriage certificate, birth certificates, passports, and supporting documentation like the taxes and such (you should have another copy of all that) It is also a great idea to bring pictures with and any other evidence that you have such as airline (bus or train) tickets or other evidence of your on going relationship. GOOD LUCK!

Everything they guys above me said, original docs are a must.

I just had mine on Monday, I was asked for:

  • Original Marriage Certificate
  • Copy of my Birth Certificate, Passport & ID
  • Copy of my wife's Birth Certificate, Passport & ID
  • Copy of a document showing joint activity, in our case they took a copy of our apartment lease.
  • 2 Photos from an album of ours (we brought over 50,000 photos lol)

We over-prepared for this whole thing, I had a suitcase weighing 60lb of stuff they didn't look at all. Just make sure the important docs you bring with you. Better to be safe than sorry is what I kept saying, which is why I over-prepared it. The whole thing literally was minutes. I'm still overwhelmed by how it went. Best of luck to you!

~~ Edit

I forgot, the IO already had a manila folder with EVERYTHING I sent to them originally (AOS package); bring a copy of yours also; your copy of the AOS docs, along with the originals you photocopied (things above).

Fear not, if your real you got nothing to worry about; I can say that now.

I have everything saved as a PDF. Should I just re-print those? Do they need to be signed and dated like the originals?

Also, we had a co-sponsor, do we need her original documents as well. ie. Birth Certificate, or can I just bring a copy of that as well?

Also, NewYork2014, what do you mean by ID? My Passport is my ID. I don't have anything else but an old driver's license from Canada expired in 2009 I think.

As far as photos, we were planning on bringing 2 photos from our wedding, 1 photo from when I proposed to her and maybe one more recently of us.

Yup, my passport was my ID too. This is all you need; you'll do great.
