My hubby just got some Prescription sunglasses but after wearing them today he realized that the tint is not nearly dark enough...

Is it possible to get them re-tinted or something without having to get a whole new set of lenses?

He should be able to have them darkened. Unless the optometrist is a bonehead that is - LOL.

I had a pair one time that they lightened.

ok....

I am going to give them a call tomorrow to find out for sure....

I was trying to do some research on it and it looks like the way they tint the lenses is by soaking them in a solution of some sort, so I am sure it shouldn't be a problem to darken the tint...

I am sure they will probably charge extra .. we paid 15 bucks for the tint it has now so if they do charge it will probably be the same amount which is a lot cheaper then paying over 100 bucks for new lenses :P....

IMO, new lenses may be the best way in the long run.

How about photo-grey lenses (which darken in sunlight and pale-yellow transparent inside)?

photo grey is not as effective, the lenses tend to stay grey-ish.. there's another process (don't remember the name) which is done on the less heavier lenses (made of plastic?) that lasts longer before the lenses stay grey-ish and its cheaper

Where did you get them done? I know lenscrafters has a satisfaction guarantee.. so if you aren't happy you can bring them back and they will replace them.. I'd call the place you got them.. They might be able to do something for you.. Most of them like to keep their customers happy...

why would you say that? We just got these lenses, cost us about $150 bucks, I really don't want to spend another $150 bucks right now.... and it isn't really an option either.. not enough moolah to go around... :P

it should be a quick fix I am thinking... the tint he has now is a really light grayish colour that doesn't really block out any sunlight ...

Hubby didn't want those photo-grey lenses

we got them done at the vision center in Walmart....

Yes, the tint is done with a liquid coating.

Problem is I don't think there are all that many 'shades'.

Also - when Wes was getting his last glasses, the tint wasn't taking properly. The technician finally decided there was a problem with the batch of fluid.

I think the shade we got was one of the lightest shades..... they had some examples there when we were first picking out the glasses and I did see a darker shade there and I pointed it out to hubby but he is the type of person that just likes to get things done and the guy had already entered the info for the other shade :P....

Walmart is usually pretty good at keeping their customers happy.. Can't hurt to ask!

well, we went in to try and get his lenses darkened and were told that the type of lenses we got wouldn't really get much darker... :P and even if we would have ordered a darker tint to begin with, it wouldn't have made a difference....

but all the nice manager lady did was upgrade the lenses to polarized lenses and just charged us the difference which was @ 50 bucks.... she kind of mentioned under her breath that we should have been offered these lenses to begin with....
