Hi all,

Quick question for you:

When asked for police certificates, will they ask for all of the countries I used to live in for 5 years? I moved back to Sweden 2 years ago, will they ask me to provide them with police records from BOTH Sweden and Ireland? or just from where I live now?

You don't need to send police certificates with the I-130. You send that in after you receive the NOA2. I believe you send them to NVC and the beneficiary has to take them to the consulate when he/she is interviewed.

You will need Police Certificate/Clearance from every country you have lived in for 6 months or longer since the age of 16. In short, yes you will need from both if you have lived there for more than 6 months since you were 16.

NOTE*** The police certificates are for the beneficiary (foreign national), not the petitioner (US Citizen or Perm. resident)

Your use of words is confusing. The petitioner "files" the I-130. Petitioners NEVER provide ANY police certificates.

If you are the beneficiary/visa applicant, a police certificate obtained within six months of moving away from a country is sufficient. For the country you're living in, it's best the certificate be less than six months old when submitted. Some police certificates have "expiration dates" printed on them. Consular Officers disregard those dates. They care only about the issue date.

I'm sorry, I am the beneficiary.

So if they issued me this paper back in april 2011, and I left 3 months later, do you think I can still use it? on the paper it only states issue date, and just to clarify, do I need to send this off before my interview date, or is this one of the papers along with my swedish police cert amongst other things that I will just show at the interview? Will they ask me why its issued 2011?

Unlike a K1 visa, in a CR1 or IR1 visa case, the police certificates are sent in at the NVC stage. Yes, if you left three months later, and still have the original police certificate it will do. You'll be putting all those dates on your DS260 visa application at the NVC stage as well.

Sorry to chime in on this - but I used to live in the UK for 4 years, moved back to Ireland - can I order the UK police cert now, even though it will be likely my interview wont be for a year or so? I no longer live in the UK or intend on doing so, so it should be ok to get it now? Get my Irish one a month or two before the interview? I just want to get as much as I can sorted now, and all the expenditure out of the way.

Thanks

Yes, you can get it anytime now.
