Added note and related question:

Why do people want to have babies?

Besides the biological "need to survive" instinct of procreating.

Just an honest question, D. and I have talked about this before and we never really rounded up the conversation.

I want to have a baby for many reasons. Children can bring great joy into a family's life. And it's something you created, and came from you. Also when you are old, you will have children who will help you when you need help and then will have grandchildren to adore. You will have your family around you. To me the question is, why don't people want to have babies? :D I can't understand it, though everyone has their own reasons.

It's not just a baby but a future, a support system you are building.

I have seen total joy in the faces of my friends who have had babies recently. Many people say they never understood certain aspects of love until they had a child. Those are all incentives to me. I want to experience the "mother's love".

And if I am around bratty kids, it doesn't make me feel it less. Because when they are your own children, you get to raise them how you see fit and I'll do my best to see that my kids are not brats. I wasn't allowed to be a brat when I was a kid, and they won't be allowed to either.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

No, not really. This is particularly true now that I have my daughter. I remember the first pregnant woman I saw out of the hospital after I gave birth. I was just so glad that I was not her and I mostly had my body back. I still feel the same way 9.5 months later. I love my daughter and I do want another eventually, but right now I am still basking in the glow of being one person again. :P

oooh yes. We were sitting in the airport watching this kid ... on a leash...slide across the airport floor, screaming....and the mo mwasn't even paying any attention. I see stuff like this all the time...and I think to myself what I would do in that situation. I know it's not easy but...that kind of stuff won'y be tolerated. I mean, when I was a kid, my mom would have put a stop to that WAY before it EVER started....

I was also, Stina, NEVER allowed to be a brat or to show out in public and my kids won't either :) There are enough well behaved kids out that that I know it's possible!!

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Its when you see the kids on the leash you can almost automatically know what they are like

And i too was never allowed to be a brat, i grew up in a pretty strict military family, and if i sassed or misbehaved, i knew life was over :)

I did give lee-way to my daughter, especially since we were just the 2 of us for almost 10 yrs. Thats where i messed up, especially after being with edi and then having a new baby. Shes not horrible, but i do have to yell alot more than i used to. :)

Well, I have had time to "get over it". We have been married for almost 2.5 years, but there are still things we want to do before we have a family. I just needed a reminder. Financially, I would like to pay off some more things-car and such which is another year or so and then build a bit of a nest egg. Could we make it if we threw caution to the wind??? Sure, but if we plan for it it would be smarter.

I am thinking about painting the guest room a light green color--good for a guest room and fine for a boy or girls nursery. That would be done.

There is other painting to be done in the house...get all that done because you can't paint when you are pregnant.

Pay off anything and everything we can and be as frugle as we can to build that safety money that will be spent like crazy when the babies start coming.

My other sister-in-law has given me most of her old baby stuff. It is all washed and organized in the guest room closet...if we are so blessed in the future.

I still yearn for a baby, but I realize that if we did a few things to prepare better, it would be a happier pregnancy.

As far as why I want a baby--there are many reasons. When you are dating or even newly married, a baby is the last thing in the world you want and you do anything to prevent it. You laugh when people ask when you want to have kids. As time passes though, you realize that a baby is what would complete your already happy family. I love Stefano with all my heart and I know he will be a great dad. I want to have babies with him. I want to have a family and I want to share that joy-and hard work-with him. It also gives me something to work for instead of selfish wants. Yes, if we never had a family we could have a bigger house and nicer things, but that house would be empty and quiet. That is not what I want. I love teaching little kids things and there really important questions...why why why. It is amazing to see them learn and understand. We want to teach our kids Italian and I can't wait to see the look on their italian grandparents faces when we arrive off the plane and there italian american grandchild is speaking italian to them. I think they will cry.

I have never for one second regretted having my kids (I have 3).

They are the light of my life and have brought me WAY more joy than any other emotion. I can't imagine my life without them.

I picture being old and having Christmas without family around.

I think of my Dad who always is happiest when my family and I and my brother's family (he has 4 kids) and sister are around and having big family celebrations. To me that's what life is about, family and love.

Halloween costumes, trick-or-treating, Christmas stockings, Santa, Easter egg hunts.....all SO much fun with kids......

Ace, your time will come and all the jealousy, sadness etc will melt away......

"We are the real countries,

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

My boys fill my house with joy. I have been divorced for so long (1993) that is just them and me for quite some time. And when they go on vacation every summer back to Puerto Rico with my family, our house is so empty and quiet... It takes me a few days to get used to the house for myself and I truly miss them.

I had them on my very early 20's while was still attending college so I even didn't had time to plan for it or think about how it would be to be a mom LOL . But I will never regret having them even though was a "surprise".

Your time will come Ace, and it's a blessing to know that you are getting prepared to have a baby that is truly welcome! And kudos for you on teaching them Italian so they stay close to their roots.

Wish you the best of luck!
