Hi all. Im on a K1 visa and will undergo medical exam next month and my interview date is june 19. I just have a question, since it was stated in the K1 visa rules that i should have met my fiance within 2 yrs of filing for fiance visa, the problem is the last time we last saw each other was Feb 2012. That was more than 2yrs now. He visited me here Jan-Feb 2012. But prior to that he came over to visit me here in the philippines 3 time. He was not able to visit me here again since we plan to file fiance, we decided that might as well save money for our processing and for our future than spending $$ for his tickets and vacation here coz normally he spends $3000 whe. He comes for a visit. That includes his ticket and everything else already. Now since we are nearly done with our processing, is it a big deal for the interviewer that we havent met personally again since feb 2012? Although i have proof that we talk and chat everyday. Pls advice. Thanks in advance

The clock starts ticking when you file Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e). So if he visited you within the two years prior to your I-129f filing date then you are Okay.

EXAMPLE: So let's say you filed on January 15, 2014 then you go back two years from that date to January 15, 2012. So, using this example if he visited you in person between 1/15/2012 and 1/15/2014 then you are fine. Hope this helps.

The 2 year requirement is only for the petition process, once at the actual visa application process in Manila the 2 year requirement doesn't exist, now they look for evidence of a genuine ongoing relationship. As long as you have evidence that your relationship is genuine all is good.

All they require is proof that the relationship is genuine. If the interviewer suggests that the fact that you haven't seen him in two years means that it is not, tell him what you just told us as to why this is so. Sounds like a perfectly valid reason why he has not come since then.

All422 :) what if for example like us we only have one picture each year since 2011, our first conversation on messenger from 2010 ( the year we met online)were gone because my accnt. Got hacked, we only have few skype call logs, we have few also from fb and yahoo? Do you think its better if he comes for my interview? Gods willing :)

There is no shopping list of what will work and what will not. It is all subjective. If he can get there iwthout a big hassle, it can't possibly hurt. But there is no magic recipie of how much of what is enough. And what may impress one interviewer may not impress another.

So show them everything you got and hope for the best.

A number of us here on VJ (myself and Hank to name a few) as USC went with our Filipino fiancé's and had a great experience. We walked away thinking that with us there, there would be no question about a relationship. I walked up to the Filipino Consular and he asked if I was the petitioner and I answered in the positive. No questions. He took the paperwork and we were done in less than 5 min. Next the American Consular asked the same and then said to me "thank you for being here, we appreciate whenever the USC is present. Please take a seat and if we need you I will call you up". 5 min later she returned with a smile on her face and we were APPROVED!!! :dancing::dancing: :joy:

Yes darnell. All in 2012. Because at first i thought we should have seen each other within 2yrs from the date of interview approval, and not the filing date :)

Now you know. You got the NOA2 because you met the petition requirements and were approved to apply for visa. Part of that being the meeting (in person) within 2 years of the petition filing date. What you do in your relationship between the NOA2 and the visa interview is up to you. I agree that they might ask why it has been so long since the last meeting, and you would simply explain as you did here. It is always possible. For Manila, it seems to work out great if both partners can be there. Our experience was similar to Hank_'s. We were both involved in the questioning, but it was quick, painless, and overall, a good experience. I'm willing to bet you'll be fine there as long as your honest.
