What about spelling, I remember a real story. One russian girl just got married to her american guy, this guy was learning Russian. And one day they had meeting with her russian friends and were talking in Russian. All was fine until her husband said (in Russian)

"Oh, dear, I forgot to tell you that I have доча!"

She was complitely shocked and said "What????? Why did you hide it from me?"

He said "Well, I forgot because I did not visit her 5 years, my mother is taking care of her"

"But how could you forget about the fact that you have доча???? And you even didn't tell me something about it!"

The guy was unable to understand why she got mad!

And the situation became a bit strange until he said:

"My mother is going to put some trees on my доча. I think it will be nice!"

After that she understood that he meant not доча, but дача!

(For those, who don't know - "доча" in Russian means daughter and "дача" means summer house). One letter completely changes the meaning of all.

Well I also would be shocked if my husband would suddenly tell me that he has a daughter, and I never knew about it! :)
