Question about proof of meeting within 2 years

Hi,

I'm a newby here. This site seems like an awesome source of information. Since we all have our own special "twists," I hope no one will mind a simple question. Right now, my fiancee and I are beginning to gather docs preparing to send the I-129f to NSC.

I saw on the guidelines pages photos need to be dated for less than 2 years. Does "dated" mean the internal camera date must be superimposed? This may be a problem, because I never had the camera date the photos. Or can I simply write the dates on copies of the photos?

My fiance and I met summer 2004, and have many photos and many jointly signed documents. We lived together for almost all of 2005 in Kiev, and have a copy of the lease. If the undated photos won't work, there are a few other items, too.

I'm also assuming I will send copies of airline ticket stubs, and other goodies documenting our meeting.

What's the easiest and simplest evidence to establish we have met within the last two years? If all I need to produce for Nebraska Service Center is some photos with the date scribbled on them, and ticket stubs, why bother with the other docs like the apartment lease and the like?

Thanks,

George

The photos do not have to have the date on them from the camera. You can just write the dates and places, etc. on the back of the picture. The pictures need to have both of you in them to prove you have met in person.

The other documents you can provide to prove it's been within 2 years is airline tickets, hotel reservations, etc.

The lease from when you lived together would be good evidence that you've met as well.

Good luck with your I-129F application and I hope you get a speedy approval.

Hi George! You can write the date and a short caption at the back of the photos you want to include in your packet. That's what we did. And yes, you will also need to include copies of airline ticket stubs and anything that will prove that you have met her. The apartment lease and the like will be useful to show them that you two lived together. It's better to provide evidences that you think will help you strengthen your case. Overdoing your packet won't hurt. You can never tell when they will ask for more proofs so make sure you got them handy and provide backups as well coz sometimes unexpected things could happen (whether you like it or not).

No you don't need computer-dated photos. Most people just write the date and location on the back. Having lived together you should have a lot of other evidence of genuine relationship that you should focus on. If both of your names are on the lease that's pretty good evidence IMO. Also, plane tickets and boarding passes, copies of your passport (with stamped pages). You should also write a short description of how you met and were together, either as part of your statement of intent or as an addendum to the I-129F. The concensus is that a variety of evidence that paints a picture of a real relationship is preferable to a lot of the same type of evidence. Having lived together you should have a ton of stuff you can use.

Thank you all for the quick replies that are easing my insecurities of dealing with the U.S. gubbermint.

I'm convinced I found a great place to get my fiancee home with me as soon as possible!

Assuming we have our documents all lined up and ready to go, no problems encountered, and submit them correctly in order, what's the soonest I can expect my fiancee here in MI from Kiev?

I see timeline pages, and the date from initial I-129 filing to the fiancee's arrival in the U.S. varies widely.

Is seven months overly optimistic?

Thanks again,

George

There's two different sets of timelines you need to be looking at, really - firstly, the timelines of everyone who's filed their I-129F to Nebraska/Texas/California (because right now California is processing the petitions for Nebraska & Texas too) - lately the norm seems to be 70 - 90 days from NOA1 to NOA2. Then (you also need to consider that your petition will spend something like 2-6 weeks at the NVC before being forwarded to the consulate) you need to check out how long it tends to take to get a K1 interview in Kiev once they've received the petition. I've no idea how long that part is likely to take (plenty of people here will, though) - but if you have a play around with the timeline feature on here, you should be able to get a pretty good (albeit rough) idea of what kind of timeframe you're looking at. As you say though, they can vary quite wildly - but at least you should get some clue as to what's realistic, what's just-about-possible, and what's completely outside the realms of possibility!

Good luck! :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png
