So I spent half of Boxing Day in the emergency room at home with a severe gall bladder attack.

Then the Friday before New Year's, I slipped and fell and severely twisted my left arm.

Then two of our flights back to Tulsa were cancelled and we had to stay an extra night in New York.

Then on the day we finally got back to Tulsa, I tripped on some uneven concrete pavers and fell again, landing on my left arm again.

Then my first day back to work, I get "audited" and told all the stuff I had been doing "wrong", and was treated as if I had been lying about how I had been doing my job.

Then we get the rest of the bill from the hospital today, as well as the news that I have a fracture near my wrist and need to go see an orthopaedist tomorrow.

Oh, and on Friday, I go see my doctor again and find out whether or not I should have gall bladder removal surgery.

When it rains, it pours.

/end whiny vent

Yikes! I guess the up side is if you use up all of the year's badluck in the first few weeks you will only have good stuff left. Hope things start to get much better, fast!

Ooooo....I've just been waiting for a thread like this.....I've been DYING to tell you all this story.....

My boss is not only a lawyer who makes good money, but he comes from OLD MONEY.

You know, the kind that never runs out. He's never one day in his life worried if he might not have food next week, money for the light bill, or enough gas money till next payday. Don't get me wrong - he's a super guy and I REALLY like him. But he just has no idea of how some of us get by.

Well, let me tell you about his life since about mid-October -

He bought his step-daugher a small house and she was assigned a housemate (the step-daughter, a lovely young woman, has a severe disability and she needed someone to live with her). Along with the house, my boss gave them his old but reliable minivan to drive.

Well, the housemate snuck out with the van one night and piled it into a tree. She was, luckily, unhurt. When my bosses step-daughter called home to report the incident, her mother (in a state of panic trying to get to her daughter) backed her car into my bosses Porsche. She didn't do any damage to her SUV, but the Porsche now needs a new rear quarter-panel.

Ok - totalled van and severly damaged Porsche. Score - 2.

About 3 weeks before Christmas, the wife is now driving her SUV along a heavily travelled country road. She meets head-on a woman driving out of control about 50 miles an hour. Miraculously, she suffers only a busted rib and bruising. Her SUV however is a total.

Score - 3.

Three days before Christmas, my boss is minding his own business in traffic, driving his brand new Chevrolet Avalanche that he bought to replace the totalled van. He becomes the unfortunate victim of a sudden-stop 'sandwich' - i.e. he is rear-ended at a stoplight and that impact pushes him into the truck in front of him.

Score - 4.

The bright side is nobody got killed in any of this mess.

The moral of the story is that it can rain on anybody's parade, even if they have pocketfulls of money to cure the problem.

UGH Cassie, that really sucks. I'm sorry you have had one mishap after another. :(

Did you at least have some fun back home in spite of it all?

I do have to say, in amongst the painkillers (the injections you get for gall bladder attacks are SWEET) and bruises, we had a fantastic Christmas, couldn't ask for anything better. Got to see lots of family (especially the niece and nephew, who are adorable with a capital A) and friends. It's just been a bit of a struggle since we've gotten back to Tulsa.

(F) Awwwwwwwwwww....... you poor thing! Who was that comic book character who walked around with a little raincloud over his head? You must feel as if it's migrated to you. Remember what some obnoxious Pollyanna is always sure to say: it's a chance to grow stronger in adversity. Just keep shaking your head and saying "AFGO".

Sorry to hear of your mess Cassie. I'm sure your luckwil turn around soon. Take care.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
