No need to be surprised, just take a gander around the world and you find only one group of people plagued with guilt because they have not yet done enough for another group.

Nature boy - I'm sure I am prejudice to some degree. It's hard to be born into the American experience and not be, kinda like it's hard for you being born White and deny White privilege.

The difference between you and me though, is that your racial identity is part of a majority that controls every means under the sun to oppress minorities (banking, government, commerce, industry etc)

"White privilege" was an acceptable excuse 30+ years ago. Not any more, sorry to tell you. You're going to have to think of another excuse.

Do you really think a bank gives a flying fart who they lend money to? Do you think they purposefully withhold loans from blacks solely based on race? The answer is NO. They withhold loans from blacks WHO DON'T QUALIFY for those loans. And since many blacks have bad credit (yes, generalization--sorry, I'm trying to make a point), it looks like they are doing it solely based on race. A bank, or any business for that matter, just wants to make money, they don't care if the customer is white or black. Money is all green.

Another example. I work on Wall Street, and there are plenty of blacks in high posotions, even at the senior level. How did the white man not oppress all of them and keep them down? I guess they were qualified to be there. They actually went to high school and college. They didn't hang on the street all night smoking weed. But since a small percentage of blacks chooses to take that route (education, drive, high aspirations, etc), again, it looks like black are held down and not allowed to get ahead. They aren't held down; they choose not to get ahead. Just like many whites do also. Not every white guy is working in corporate America and earning 6 figures.

I won't deny that there's stil this color stigma, but it's much lower than when I was a kid. I'm 38. And now, I only see mostly people older than me still have issues with race. People younger than me don't have a hangup about race as they did when I was a kid.

1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Nobody (from any race) can say that #1 or #2 can't be applicable to their race. Majority has NOTHING to do with it. Any person can hate another person simply because of their color. There are plenty of blacks who think they are superior to whites too.

Why 30+ years ago? Was there a defining moment 30+ years ago that you feel White privilege disappeared? So you admit that it existed at one time, correct? I'm just trying to understand your 30+ year ago reference and would like for you to tell me what event occurred that ended White privilege.

As far as your banks comments, I was only naming examples where institutionalize racism exists which reinforces a racial majority dominance over a minority group. Don't really care about whatever else you said because it is irrelevant to my original point - but ok I guess you wanted to get that off your chest?

We don't live in a post-racial society. Since Barack Obama became president I have glimpsed a mere taste of how bad this country was and still is in many respects. The day after he won the election, all the racists came out like cockroaches.

We have a federal government that has enforced laws that have been passed to prevent discrimination and certain forms of institutionalized racism. We have laws that vigorously fight against and provide stiff penalties for people who commit hate crimes. There wasn't some moment where those in the majority oppressing minorities woke up and said ok we're going to stop. There was no altruistic gesture to say hey we are going to allow Black people the right to live anywhere they want, even as my neighbor. No.

To be bluntly about it........People died, bled, marched, passed legislature, campaigned to teach those White racists in America the meaning of c i v i l i z a t i o n.

I know as a nation we have come a long way. After all we did nominate a Black president. That's not really my point and has nothing to do with the definition of racism and exactly what racism is.

Well I suppose if we used the dictionary to describe every social problem, we'd have a pretty non-complicated life huh? If you go back and read the link I posted, I am not talking about dictionary definitions.

If I wanted a simple and non-critical thinking explanation of the world I'd watch Fox News.
