Hello everyone.

We are going through the K-1 visa and our excitement after we received good for our approved NOA 2 soon disappeared. I have been looking into the next few steps and I have not come across anything useful. I have phoned several places and the outcome was rude people or automated messages that were both useless!

To start with I wanted to ask about the medical exam. I am having mine in London and after doing some research online I have heard several things. I am not sure on what I should take down to London and I don't want to waste any money. Here are my questions for the medical exam:

  1. Do I need a full medical history or should I just take the Vaccination records. The PDF file I have downloaded doesn't mention anything about a medical history but other websites have.
  2. Can i just get a hold of this vaccination record from my doctors that I am registered to? If not, where do I go to get that?

Other problems we have come across is the Affidavit of Support. I understand that my fiance has to earn a certain amount but if not then we need a joint sponsor. We have a willing family member on my fiances side of the family who is more than happy to help. Questions are:

  1. Is it Form I-864 that needs to be filled out for the Fiance K-1 Visa or the I-134.
  2. Does my fiance have to fill out a form and her joint sponsor family member separately?
  3. If we have a choice on which form, I-864 and I-134, which one would be best to fill out?

With question 3 above, correct me if I am wrong, but I-134 affidavits not legally binding? Therefore wouldn't it be better to fill out the I-864 form to show the Consular?

I just want to thank you in advance.

Chris & Bianca

Hi there,

After recently going through what you've just done (got approved in London last month), I think I can answer your questions.

For the medical all you need is a stamped and signed copy of your vaccination records, your local GP will be happy to do this for you.

In regards to the affidavit of support, I was in exactly the same position, my fiancé spent the last 6 months with me here in London, so her taxes said she earned not enough. Luckily we got her father to co sign (joint sponsor me). In regards to that if the family member just fills out the i-134 and provides a current w2 (last tax return), or any proof of income that is all you need, and you should be all set. For a K1 fiancé visa you have to do the i-134, the other one is for if your married.

You have been a great help!

I take it I also need the usual documents for the medical (passport, police checks, birth certificate etc)?

Also just to clarify, if we get another sponsor there will be 2 I-134 forms in total?

Thanks again!

I had my medical today (it's on the UK forum if you want to read about it under the thread 'Knightsbridge doctors' (or something similar)

For the medical, you need:

- passport photo

- police certificate

- vaccination records (GP print out worked for me,)don't fret if you don't get it, you can get approved without 1, but will need to get them all before AOS...short answer is get the print out

- passport

- medical questionnaire completed.

I can't answer about the co-sponsor section I'm afraid, hopefully someone will though.

Hope that helps

No worries, my absolute pleasure.

So on the day of your medical, take police certificate, birth certificate, passport, copy of vaccination, and your case number.

If the other sponsor (the co sponsor) is willing to co sign your affidavit of support, you'll only need one. The embassy, will ask you questions about your co sponsor, so have all that ready. But you'll only need to provide one affidavit of support along with proof of income.

Tare care, and good luck.

I think if you need a co sponsor then you will need 2 forms, your fiancee must be one of them plus the co sponsor. not something i have done but i would think its covered in the guides on here. Best thing to do is read the guides thoroughly.

For the Medical: Please be advised that if you answered "YES" to any of the medical questions, you will need a doctors report detailing the Onset, Test Results (if any), Specialist letters (if any), Treatment, and prognosis. Made the mistake of not taking this to the medical and delayed my fiance by 3 weeks by the time she was able to get a GP appointment, plus medical reports copied, to GP writing up a report. Be Prepared. GP provided a list of vaccinations, but if your missing any you will need to get them at Knightsbridge.

Myself and a cousin is co-sponsoring my fiance as I live in the UK and do not have a US Job, so my cousin filled out a I-134 with a letter from his employer and I'm filling out an i-134 with a copy of my recent US tax return (for foreign income)

Good luck

If you have a joint sponsor---

Fiancé K1, I-134: ONE form from whomever has the money...either fiancé or someone else.(London specific)

Spouse CR1, I-864: TWO forms...one from spouse even if no income, one from joint sponsor.

K1 Adjustment of Status, I-864: TWO forms...one from spouse even if no income, one from joint sponsor.
