Medical: check!

Well, the medical at Dr. Seiden's in rainy downtown Toronto was really an easy process after all. The hardest part was getting up at 5:30 a.m. to be there on time and walking from the subway station in the dark. Strange.

I got there at about 7:20 a.m. and was the 4th in line. They ask that you be there between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. During the process I counted 15 people at one time in the waiting room and it looks like all of us were there for our visa medicals. The regular appts. started to trickle in later.

Once I got going, I felt like I was on a conveyor belt. I was conveyed to the secretary who took my passport, photo (1), immunization records and of course $185 (they give change), then I was conveyed to a little waiting area in the hall. My butt barely had time to touch the seat when I was conveyed to the x-ray room. Everything off above the waist, wore a little paper poncho, hugged the machine and click!. Got dressed and was conveyed back to the waiting room, with said paper poncho in tow for the physical.

Next stop was to see the nasty lady who drilled my arm with a needle the size of a drinking straw to draw two vials of blood. Ok, ok... she wasn't nasty, she was actually VERY nice, and MAYBE the needle was not as big as a drinking straw, but I still kept my eyes closed for most of it. I hate needles. Conveyed back to the waiting room again.

Then came the dreaded physical portion. (dramatic ..."da da da dahhhh"). Was conveyed to the exam room, told to take everything off but my socks (I kept my underwear on too - tee hee! ;) ) and waited for Dr. Seiden and his aide (?) Carol, to come in. Told Dr. Seiden I had 13 toes, and he laughed (it's not true) and jumped up on the table. Dr. Seiden actually never left the desk. He simply asks questions, checks the vaccination record and makes notes on all the forms. Carol actually performed the exam which consisted of her listening to my lungs, doing an abdominal exam, doing a breast exam, checking my pulse on my foot and taking my blood pressure.

Got dressed, took back my passport, letter and immunization records and then took a slip to the front. There I waited for the lady who did most of the conveying. She took the slip and told me to come back on Wednesday between noon and 5:00 for the results.

I asked about getting a copy of the vaccination record and they said it's given to us automatically so I did not have to worry about it.

Left office at 9:15 a.m.

So now I am not only $185 lighter but also one task lighter too. My body keeps trying to fall asleep everywhere because now I can finally put this part of the process behind me.

So there it is folks - this has been a ground breaking report, from your on-the-street reporter, Monique for Visa Journey News!

(fade out).

Monique, how long did it take for you to get a medical date and did they only need your packet 3 letter and file number? Not the interview date right?

I know I'm jumping ahead a little because my K3 is still not approved (the I-130 is, I want the K3 though so we can be reunited faster). I'm planning a Vancouver transfer but I'd be doing the medical in Toronto (luckily I live downtown!).

Good to hear that the experience was okay!

When I got packet 3, I guessed when my appt. would be and booked the medical. Needless to say I guessed WRONG, lol and had to rebook. This was not a problem for them though. I ended up rebooking AFTER I received packet 4 (the appt. date). You need to bring the letter from packet 3, your passport, 1 passport photo, your immunization records and $185.00. If you have special considerations, then you should ask them about your needing to bring anything else. Good luck!

And just to complete my medical experience:

I picked up my results today. The 'conveyor lady' took me to the back office and handed them to me, telling me what to do with everything (basically, do not open and take to interview - x rays should also be taken when you cross the border) but hey, we already know all of this from reading VJ! Attached (as promised) was a copy of the vaccination record.

I also asked her about rolling the x-rays into a tube for travelling and she said yes, it would be fine.

So there - all done!
