No boxes left blank on application?

Hello! Hello!

I had some recent advice from a lawyer that I shouldn't leave any box undefined or blank. When I set out to fill the i-29F out I didn't have a choice in a lot of instances. There was no option for me to type in ' Not Applicable' for dates, postal codes and things of that nature.

I went back and put in n/a in the respective blank boxes. Is this something I should be worried about or am I being overly cautious?

Welcome to the forum.

Recently, USCIS has kind of confused things with the various forms. Refer to item 3, How to fill out Form I-129F, at the top of page 2 of the official Form I-129F instructions for more specific information:

http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

We are going to file our K1 very very soon...So now we are reading/reviewing the forms and instructions on how to fill-up...For the I-129F form, as instructions stated "refer to page 2 item no.3 - If an item is not applicable or the answer is "none", leave the space blank.(so it means that don't write anything on the box).

I am just wondered why your lawyer gave such advice...Maybe your lawyer was referring to another forms but not for this I-129F.

Anyway, I just wanna hear to anyone who already been approved. What did you do about this?

I left everything BLANK on the new version where you would have put either N/A or None on the older version of the I-129F and I was just approved a few days ago.

Absolutely nothing you should be worrying about. It is advised to put 'n/a' or 'none' in blank boxes wherever applicable.

Not anymore. With the latest form edition, which is almost a year old now, came new form instructions too.

3. Answer all questions fully and accurately. If an item is not applicable or the answer is “none,” leave the space blank.

The ones that did not apply I left blank. That was following strict instructions.

Logically, if you leave something blank then interpretation could be that it is blank because:

1) you forgot to put something;

2) it does not apply.

But the instructions tell you what jay Kay said.

Thanks for clarifying! Anyway, I would be very surprised if the OP had problems because she filled in the blanks with n/a. It doesn't sound like a big deal, since n/a cannot really be confused with anything else.

I have not seen anyone get an RFE for putting N/A anyway. I think the new instructions for all the new form editions, not just the I-129F, have to do with the bar-coding they contain now.
