SS# -- Are we too late or too early?

We are at the point of scheduling the interview at the consulate, and I just found out that it's possible to apply for a Social Security number at the same time as the K-1 visa.

But are we too late to do that? Did we need to apply from the start of the process?

Will we now have to wait until she gets to the U.S.?

Any advice or clarification of our options is welcome.

Do you have a link you can share for the printed out information, proving that I indeed could apply for an SSN?

That sounds very efficient way getting it done

Thanks

Here is the guide. It contains the links to the information (like this one https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530), as also the application form

You cannot apply for a SSN at the interview. That is only for immigrant visas which K-1 is not.

Sounds like yer getting confused on which paperwork is which paperwork.

Ages past, a K-1 visa chaser for Guangzhou used Part I of the DS-230 - I dunno what is used anymore - I think it's the DS-160 plus (maybe) something else, but

A K-1 visa chaser is not allowed to chase after a SSN prior to interview day. It isn't done. The only time to chase after it is after one has boots-on-the-ground in the USA. Maybe yer confused the CR-1/IR-1 process, a bit?

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I applied for a SSN after I got my employment authorization card and received it after 3 weeks. When I received the green card, I went back to SS office to update my status and got a new SS card in the mail 3 weeks after. Everything went smoothly. This happened in Marin County, California.

No, not for K-1s. This was already stated in this thread. That only works for immigrant visas and a K-1 is non-immigrant.

Doesn't work for K-1 visas, sorry.

Remember the DS-160 is a multipurpose form, not only used as a K-1 visa application.

Great Question ! I'd be happy to vette it, if'n you'd only supply the exact url that clearly states it.
