Ok guys I know this topic has been asked way more times before but I just have different reasons and story for asking of it. Ok so we filed for 130 in June 6. And haven't heard a word from them. Tried emailing them and expediting them on march 17 but yet to hear something from them. So my qs is is it possible to go over there to give my exam on a tourist visa and come back?

My background is I m a doctor in Pakistan. And ppl who know about usmle or match stuff would understand more. We have to give a step called CS in states and in order to sit for this year's match the latest I can give this exam is by July 12. Looking at my status there is no way possible I will be there by then. So it possible for me to go and give the exam and come back? We have waited for this long that normally one month or two wudnt have made a big difference but for me it makes a difference of one whole year In my career and also decrease my chances of matching next year. I have already given 2 steps which i could give from my country but this step only happens there. The problem is I m from Pakistan and I dont know if it would be easy for me to get it. But I m very desperate right now because I don't wanna give up my career just because uscis decided to hold my case for no reason! Please I need experts advices if u have seen any case like this before!! Thanks!

Also I would be issued a visa letter from usmle ppl so it's pretty easy to get a student visa from that but the problem is 130 right now in process.

By "give" do you mean take an exam? Sometimes called sit an exam? Are you sure you need a student visa for that or just a tourist visa?

You can get apply for a tourist visa while I-130 is pending.

Yes basically I just need a tourist visa. But when normal ppl apply for that exam we call it student visa since the usmle issues a visa letter and it's related to education. And getting it doesn't have a bad effect on 130? Thanks for the reply :)

It's very hard for anyone already going through the immigration process to get a student or visitor visa. You can try of course, but you already show immigrant intent.

Yeah I know. I was just hoping that since this is a genuine reason I might have good luck with them. :|

No harm trying.

I understand what you are going through. You don't get student visa for step 2 clinical skills, you have to get B1-B2 visitor visa for that. You need to apply for Step 2 CS asap, you will get a letter from ECFMG saying Step 2 CS is being conducted in US only with 6 months duration during which you have to give exam once you apply. Once you get that letter, apply for visitor visa, go to interview with your medical school degree, and most importantly your Step 1 and step 2 CK scores. Good luck. You must try for visitor visa asap.
