Hello! I am considering becoming a norwegian citizen and renouncing my american citizenship. I am 18 years old, and want to go to school abroad, however, I want to live there. What do I need to consider, research and take into account?

Through what route?

People from other countries can't just decide to become citizens of other countries. That is not how it works.

Are you claiming Asylum?

Norwegian citizenship is given to people who have a Norwegian parent or who have lived in Norway for the past seven years on a residence permit.

Do those apply to you? You don't just apply because you want to. You are ineligible for Norwegian citizenship unless you have a Norwegian parent.

Every country decides who gets to live there, and there are rules to follow. No one has totally free movement to live in any country they want.

The future.

Real life in Norway.

Your age.

Nothing wrong with considering the change. My hope is it will serve to indicate to you the incredible fortune you had when you were born here.

Student Visa?

You could pursue a student visa if you are accepted into a Norwegian university, if you can prove that you have the funds for your stay and for tuition, if you have arranged accommodation, and if you agree to leave once your student visa is finished.

I would be being by googling "how to go to school in Norway" or "USA citizen living in Norway what visa is required". You cannot just say one day "wow, I want to become a citizen of xxxxxx country, there are rules. And you seem pretty quick to give up USA citizenship... What happens when you want to go back, even for a visit? Or want to live? You need to get a grip, and do some reading before popping off here...
