Koshari has tons of carbs. I only ate it twice in Cairo. Cairo supposedly has the best koshari shops. My MIL makes kick azz mashi so I ate a lot of that. Did you have goolash? It's a meat pie made with phyllo dough and ground beef, onions and spices. How about macarona bi bechamel? HEAVY!!! I can't eat much of that. I believe the white beans with tomato sauce is fasoolia. Did you have fuul and falafel/tameya every day? I did. My defense for not eating is my sensitive stomach. All I had to do was tell Moh it would upset my stomach if I ate too much and he left me alone. Hey did you eat any of those twinkie things with the raspberry and coconut? LOVE those!

What was he feeding you, Bridget? You said you ate out a lot, right? I ate normally when I went out to eat but at home they were killin me with the rich food. My MIL kept pushing food at me and asking Moh why I wasn't eating. He told her I was "making" a diet. I lost about 8lbs my first trip. Everyone said I looked sick when I came back.
Oh this is one thing I am worried about. But, ya'll are saying that ya'll lost weight and now I'm thinking that doesn't sound like such a bad idea. My husband and I have yet to talk about the bathroom there. I wonder if it's like here? Oh I hope it is.

I gained about 5 pounds 'cause my husband kept stuffing my face with food. The bathroom "looked" the same in Egypt but you had to manually flush the toilet by filling a bucket with water and pouring it in that top thingy part of the toilet. Not sure about Morocco. Oh and there's the bidet that is inside the toilet that squirts water up there. I had fun with that! :goofy:

Koshari - whenever we'd get it...everyday, I'd ask him to please just split one between us. He wouldn't hear of it and the first time I didn't clear my plate he told me it is haram to leave food. later I got him to admit it's not haram but that I guess the Prophet, pbuh, said you get extra points or something if you eat all of your food and not waste it. Dunno if that's true or not.

Mashi - kept piling it on my plate even after I said no more. I had learned to only put a little on my plate so I'd be technically clearing it but he kept putting more on it.

Other than that we'd eat out and had bread, this white bean stuff in tomato sauce, kabob, spinach with chickpeas and tomato sauce, etc. We went out for subs (forget what they call them there) a lot and had to finish that too.

Then the cookies!!! The bisquits with the chocolate inside them. There was a cookie named "bimbo" too. I got a kick out of hearing him ask me to get him a bimbo. :jest:

There was one smell though that made me gag. Maybe it's what you're talking about. It's some spice, maybe curry or something but it permeated the air during Eid. I don't know if it went away or if my nose just got used to it but it was wicked bogus.

Nope didn't have goolash or macarona bi bechamel or the twinkie things. His sisters only cooked for us one night so with that we had two nights of food..the first when we ate with them and then the second night of leftovers. Other than that I cooked spaghetti and sauce that I brought from home one night and we ate out all the other nights 'cause I had no clue how to use the oven and there were hardly any things to cook with in the flat. I didn't want to cook in his place because it was so small and would have been such a hassle to do dishes since there was no hot water heater and we'd have to heat the water ourselves to clean the dishes.. forget that!!!!

Oh I brought home these hollow stick things that taste like the inside of a heathbar. LOVE them! Anyone know what they're called? I like the ones covered in sesame seeds the best. I also ate "libb" all the time which is just those seeds that you crack with your teeth and eat the inside of them. He cracked all of mine so I didn't have to.

when my MIL was here she kept telling me not to eat! She says I need to lose weight so I can be more healthy, yet when it was time to sit down for dinner, she kept telling me to eat more and when she asked me why I wasn't eating a lot, I told her she told me not to eat alot so I was following her advice. And still even over the internet and phone she tells me "No aungry!(hungry)" I'm doing my best, but I'm at a plateu and I can't get off of it. I bet when I go, she's going to push the food at me again.
