Sketchy as best.

Insurance would have covered him. No reason to shoot him dead for it.

He will probably get punished since it was a white guy that he killed. Had the dead person been black or hispanic he would probably get off free.

It's sad to think that way, but it's the world we live in. Wish we could all get equal treatment under the law.

When you have a gun, everything is worth killing for that's the real consequence of lax gun ownership laws and stand your ground type legislation. The theory is great, people should be able to defend themselves and their property against troublemakers and thieves. In practice however it is really obvious that the idea of having a dedicated police force is the rational way to deal with these threats. Citizens are not trained in anything to do with risk/threat assessment or aggressive action outcomes. Untrained citizens get scared, grab a gun and shoot. Human life becomes expendable, the thieves demonized and a vicious cycle ensues. This is not the direction society wants to go in, the whims of he NRA excepted.

And yet, for every shooting, that's the way we're trying to go. It's going to be have guns everywhere so we can be safe.

I don't believe it's a majority point of view. The number of households with guns is declining. The increase in guns is associated with the current gun owners accumulating more and more weaponry (and stock piles of ammunition). You hear the vocal minority in OT. These people are obsessives. There are of course very well rounded individuals who have and use guns, for sport. These people do not spout of endless rhetoric about ever increasing government involvement in their hobbies or worry that democracy hangs on the very thin thread of gun ownership. They keep their guns securely locked up, shoot them in safe and supervised environments and don't talk about how they would shoot a crazy who tried to get their woman.

Hopefully this guy is found not guilty. Added bonus is there's one less car thief walking around.

Just a quick question, from your own admission you have in fact been incarcerated for some crime or another. Tell me this, had you been shot during the commission of that crime by some concerned citizen, would the US be better off today? Would you have deserved it?

I wasn't convicted of stealing someone elses property. That would be stupid. I might end up getting shot and killed (deservedly so) over it.

I do not care what you were convicted over, what I said was, during the commission of the crime, had a concerned citizen shot you, would the US be a better place now and would you have deserved to be shot? I want to understand why you think property theft deserves such a penalty. I know historically theft of property has attracted harsh penalties but the world is a very different place now to when you could be shot for stealing a horse or a cow. Or at least, outside of a certain bizarre mindset in the US it is.

Committing any sort of crime that resulted in incarceration counts as pretty stupid to me, I haven't ever been tempted into such felonies, but I don't get why your felony is less deserving of the death penalty by private citizen than the theft of a car.
