We have an athlete here who can't pass the FCAT.

The first time he took the ACT he scored a 13 on reading

this time he scored a 24....

ummm...yeah. They are recalling his scores and accusing him of cheating and will make him retake the exam with just one proctor and him. Scandalous!! THe woman who had him in her room during the test is freaking out.

because.....

the FCAT is a basic skills reading test. It tests to see if you can read on a 10th grade level.

The ACT and SAT are HIGH LEVEL reasoning tests....10th grade reading level wouldn't cut it.

This child is not even CLOSE to passing the FCAT...he scored a 13 on the "bad day" and then his score SHOT up - 11 points is not a normal jump of score....

I didn't take the ACT-I took the SAT so I don't know what the ACT is like. I'm not sure how you could cheat on the SAT either.

The thing about reading is...you can either read it or you can't. How could you possibly cheat? Plus I'll bet they don't allow out calculators during that section of the test...the ones that can like talk to each other.

This is equivalent to scoring a 340 on the SAT reading, then taking it again and scoring over 600. That is a HUGE jump that is just not that easy to do from a child who reads on a 8th grade level.

I agree Karo. If the reading section is anything like the SAT, it's more about what you can analyze about the reading more than the reading itself. I don't think you can get that much better so quickly like that.

Like I remember one of my readings for the SAT was a section of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and it wasn't just read it, it was what does this part mean and what is this really trying to say? Luckily, I was always pretty good at the whole dissect a passage and find the hidden meaning stuff...imagery and all that good stuff. Thank God there's none of that in accounting though!

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone jumping up that much, usually the most you can improve your score is a couple of points.

I proctor for ACT exams at my college and I caught a kid cheating the first time I did it :P He didn't seem to bright.....he looked up at me everytime he was turning back in his booklet to finish a section that was already over!
