Hi everyone. I have a question. I had my interview a week ago and the office said everything looks good and was going to approve it this week.but still not yet.he took my I 94, didn't stamp my passport. Was wondering if I could travel to Africa with my EAD/AP. What are my chances of coming back into the country without any problems. My visit is not an emergency, it's just causal visit. Thanks for your help.

your AP is what you need to travel outside of the US and come back legally. the i-94 is what you get when you come to the US as a temporary immigrant and the i-94 is what is taken when you leave the US. you won;t have problems leaving. but when you come back make sure you show your AP, it's good for 1 year.

well Jane, all what i can tell u is that, don't go to Africa yet till u have ur green card.AP is not all that trusted and the Immigration at the Port of Entry can decides to refuse u entry if he/she found something suspicious. So the best things that i can tell u is to wait till u have ur GC.As u mentioned that, the visit is not emergency,if i were to be u,i would have postpone my trip and wait. That is all what i can say for now.I know u are thinking and Dreaming about Ghana but it pays to wait.

Thank Janet.I know how u are feeling.I also missed Ghana but there is nothing that one can do till u have the GC at Hand. When i got my AP,i decided to go to Ghana but i was advised not to because AP is not trusted like how the GC is much trusted. So i am waiting till i get my GC on hand which is on the way before i departs.I will be leaving to Ghana next month and spend like 6-8 weeks there.I hope u can get ur GC soon so that we can meet there.Wishing u the good luck and i believe that,u gonna get it pretty soon...

Thanks Mak. I'm happy for you. I will wait as you said. I want to enroll in a school, I just want to do something to take my mind off it. Go to school to do nursing. I don't think I would qualify for financial aid just with a eac..will I?

You can travel using the AP. Will you have problems travelling to Africa with the AP--depends. You are so close to receiving the GC. You need to ask yourself if travelling now before receiving the GC is worth the risk of having problems with the airlines. Due to the agreement between the US and international airlines, the airlines are more likely to deny you boarding when returning to the US. If you are using an airline that thinks the AP is a fake, it will be very difficult to change their mind. If they are used to the GC and do not hassle people carrying the GC then you might want to wait. If you were going to the UK, any country in Europe, Australia, and maybe even some South American countries, I believe you would have minimal problems using the AP.

The AP is designed to travel before the GC is issued, but in this instance it might be prudent to just wait a few more days for the GC to arrive.

Good luck,

Dave
