When I moved down, I just put down what the contents were in the moving boxes. IE. clothing, coats, shoes etc. I numbered all my boxes and listed them on a seperate form which I attached to the customs form. Well when I crossed over with my UHaul, CBP just opened the truck, looked inside and then closed it up. I was so mad because it took me so long to pack all of those boxes and list everything and the agent didn't even want the paperwork or to see it.

Don't you need a form 7501 instead of a 3299 if your driving it down yourself? Im crossing in a day and I know you need a 7501 to declare your car, but shouldn't you also declare what you brought with you on that? I used a moving company and 3299 was used with them because my articles would be unaccompanied. Now I'm confused again.

If you're moving the items with you, you do not need a declaration form. You should have a manifest of what's in each box

example:

  • box 1 - books.
  • box 2 - towels
  • box 3 - clothes etc...

but you do not need any special forms to declare what you're moving when you move to the USA unless the goods are unaccompanied.

CBP didn't open our uhaul or look at the manifest. We crossed at Coutts, AB / Sweetwater, MT
