Our process is going fantastically. We were in NVC for about 1.5 weeks. I called every day to get our case number. It takes a long time to get through but I finally got it. My fiancé just had his medical today in Manila. It's remarkable to me that it's only 5/21 and we're already at the medical! The only thing that concerns me is that no interviews are available at the embassy. We're checking multiple times a day. Still, I'm not going to complain about that.

That's amazing progress! It's really inspirational to see someone making it through so fast. I know not everyone will be as lucky, but it's great to know that there's a possibility that things can go quickly.

I think I'll give them a week before I start calling in to find if they assigned us a case number.

Got an RFE saying they don't have my fiancé's Intent to Marry me letter...We both signed the letter but I don't know why they don't have it. It should have been all sent together with our petition from our lawyer. I heard that he can scan the Intent to Marry Letter with his signature to me and I can send it to USICS? I actually heard that from another Immigration Lawyer so I hope that is fine with USICS too...That will save a lot of time if it was scanned over instead of being mailed to me.

The second request evidence of meeting in person. Again I don't know why they don't have that too because I sent all boarding passes, itineraries, car, hotel, receipts for every little thing we did and bought over there together. And over 20 photos of us together and with his family too. But I will resend them all again if they don't have it...again the lawyer have all of this and now I'm wondering if it wasn't sent along with our petition? Anyways not too confident about her services...she said it'll take her a few weeks to respond back to them!! Ok seriously I don't have time for her to take her sweet time!

As soon as I get my fiancé's scanned letter I'm going to send them all in. Does anyone know if I have to write a letter to explain the visit and what all the receipts are? In details? Just wondering. It sounded like from the lawyer that she need to in her words, she need to write a "concise" letter to USICS. As she wasn't there and don't know what all of these receipts mean I think I could be a better job of explaining my own relationship and where I've been and with whom.

The letter of intent has to be an original signature, it can not be scanned. Submit one letter from each of you with the original signatures.

The lawyer should have known that. I would fire her, you can do all this yourself. All the lawyer does is send in the items you do the

leg work for and collect a high fee. If you follow the VJ guides here you will be better off without a lawyer.

Time and time again we hear how they prolong the process with their incompetence.

Resend (or send if the lawyer did not send it) all the other meeting in person items.

Include a letter of your relationship time line, how and where you first met, your visits and how your relationship developed over time

to current. You do not have to explain in detail what the receipts are but you can mention what you both did together.

I agree you can write a better letter than your lawyer who was not there and doesn't now your relationship like you do.

You have a certain time to respond to your FRE and if you miss that deadline you would be denied.

By what time do you have to respond ? It will take some time to get the original letter of intent from your fiance and your lawyer

needs to get on the ball and not take 2 weeks !

This has me worried because we submitted our letters of intent as scanned copies. I have yet to receive an RFE and would hate to wait 5+ months only to be told that the letters of intent are unacceptable. I'm scared out my pants now.

I have until August 14th. So that's more than enough time to get my Fiance's signed Intent to Marry me letter so I can submit it again with all of the evidence that we have met. I've visited him twice, 5mos apart for good length of time. We have more than enough proof that we have met and are in a real relationship.

I am terminating the lawyer's services next week. She's of no help. I feel like if I don't ask the right question I won't get the right answer and I'm getting more than enough help from everyone here. I'm more stress from her than she's worth, plus like you said I'm doing all of the work and all she needs to do is mail all of it in and she can't even do that right. So frustrating!

Thank you for your help Ebunoluwa!

If this is the case, does anyone know of anything I can do to preempt this mistake? This is about to potentially turn really depressing.

I honestly don't know, All I can think of is to wait for the RFE (That if, You even get one) and get ready to have an original signature so you can send it straight back to avoid any more delays, I'm sorry, I'm not much help to you, Hopefully someone with better knowledge can help you :)

I would get the original signed copy of your letters and have it on hand if and when they send you a RFE. If you have it you can send it to them fast! so its back on track for you. The thing with mine is that I can't access it because my Fiancé sent it directly to our lawyer who didn't tell me that she wasn't in my state or won't be back until Summer. I only found out when I dropped off my paperwork and all of my evidences so she can file our petition. I wanted to meet her in person and that was when she had to tell me that she wasn't in my state but working in her other office in Florida...I not happy with that when I found out! I chose a local lawyer only to find out she wasn't here anyways!

Anyways she won't send me all of my paperwork/documents per my request. Won't even respond back to me if I can have a complete copy of what she sent to USICS. So instead of waiting for her I'm going to go ahead to get what I need so I'm not in the untouched queue for too long!

My fiancé's letter of intent was a high quality digital copy and our petition was approved quickly. I did, however, make sure to send him originals for the interview.

Lena&Islam, it sound like you've made the right choice. People thought I was crazy for not using a lawyer for this process but the long history and guidelines laid out here at VJ have prepared me very well. I have zero doubts that my fiancé's interview will go swimmingly because we've dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's recommended on VJ.

I hope the rest of your process goes better with you in control!

I got this advice from an Immigration Lawyer that my fiancé can scan the Intent to Marry Letter to me. I asked another Immigration Lawyer because I didn't trust mine. But I'm finding out from people on here that USICS will not accept anything but the original signed letter...So we are doing both to be on the safe side but I'm sending USICS the original signed one to be on the safe side.

I wish I can charge the lawyers too for wasting my time per hour and for the lack of sleep!

I will be sending original copies for the interview, but also plan on having originals on hand in the case of an RFE. If you submitted high quality digital copy and were approved then I'm going to cross my fingers that what we submitted will be ok. If not then I suppose I'm now waiting on an RFE. Joy...
