  1. 1. 87%? Really?

    • I am male and I believe that number is probably true.
    • I am male and I believe that number is probably way too high.
    • I am female and I believe that number is probably true.

All of my female friends have a story or several. All of them.

Yup. Me too.

My friend is 8 months pregnant and already has two little kids. She was walking with them and a guy stopped at a stop sign and yelled "Hey, after that one, wanna make one with me??"

That's what she gets for going outside. Tsk tsk.

Oh God, sick.

I saw a guy hit on two young Spanish girls, and the friend of the one getting the most attention shouted at him "she's pregnant you sick ####." That was amusing.

There should be legislation and a new law against male strippers. These male strippers are reportedly being booked to bachelorette parties, and women are also reportedly seen attending clubs to watch and interact with these men. This activity causes the typical librarian type well behaved women to say and do things they only do at home and in group restroom meetings. Women of course would never say of do anything demeaning to a man otherwise.

Please, reinforce my view of you.

Hiring someone to strip, consensually for money, is completely different than walking down the street minding your own business. You think that women on the street are comparable to male strippers.

Disgusting.

The amount of sexism that's acceptable on VJ is mind boggling. Really is.

At least try to stay on topic.

How many men do you know that have had women publicly yell lewd things at them? Curious.

I have seen men yell/say lewd things or make lewd gestures at women in the U.S. in only three places. The New York City subway, the local high school and a south Florida gas station.

Which is why I assumed 87% was high.

But all these stories are pretty wow. I'm inclined to believe them because of the people posting them.

Men probably think this is high because they're generally not around when it happens. It's when women are alone or in groups of other women.

Guys are probably less inclined to yell something inappropriate at a woman who is walking down a street with a man.

I have NEVER had it happen when a man was around, at least in America. However when I was in Italy, it happened whether I was with a man or not. It was disgusting and not flattering in the least. And it isn't about being flattering, it's about power and dominance.

Women can tell the difference between skeeze and flattery. I am not immune to a charming compliment made with sincere and goodnatured intent. We are subjected to appraisal of our looks from the time we're little girls. Any fule kno what's a nasty come on and what's a compliment.

Huh? There has to be a man present to do the harassing right? Or is all of this women harassing women?

In all seriousness, I've heard dudes catcall and wolf whistle and I think it's totally offensive. Does not draw the kind of attention that most people want.

I wonder what percentage of men would admit to harassing the 87%?

Plus, I don't do it and guys I know don't do it. I've never seen a guy I'm hanging out with do it (in the U.S.).

I think that's the key AJ. If you don't associate with men that do it, you'd be hard pressed to believe the numbers are that high.

I have worked in a few different trades in my day and this type of harassment is definitely predominant among middle class blue collar males. I've never understood it really. I have no idea what it is meant to achieve other than to belittle the woman and make the man look like an #######. I've witnessed it on many occasions and spoke up against it a few times. I've also seen a few women give it right back, which is pretty cool.
