  1. 1. 87%? Really?

    • I am male and I believe that number is probably true.

Women should never step out of their front door unless fully covered, how dare they think they can just please themselves and wear what they like without some guy thinking they did it to attract sexual attention?

Women know how men think, yet they go out in public showing lots of skin. And they wear lingerie from Victoria's Secret to boot.

I've been catcalled and masturbated at while wearing a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt two sizes too big, with no makeup, while walking through a grocery store parking lot carrying a container of kitty litter. I've been told I have sexy legs and followed by a jerk in a convertible while wearing my then-boyfriend's t-shirt and a pair of denim shorts that stop at my knee, while walking a dog and carrying a poo-bag of, well, poo.

I don't know how I could possibly be looking like I'm looking for less attention, yet it still happens.

You must be really hot!!!

I know right. You talk to a hot girl with her boobs falling out and she acts like she gets offended when she catches you looking.

I may sound sexist, but women often do and like the opposite of what they say. They all say they want a sweet gentle man, that treats them like a Queen.

BS

they will use him for shark bait.

I must be missing something, because I don't see women wandering around the streets with their boobs falling out. Perhaps I live in the wrong city? No idea why you think there is some code where women say one thing and mean something different. That's pretty stupid and not my experience with friends, family or acquaintances, it's a myth that men use to excuse their own inappropriate behaviour, so yeah, you do sound and probably are sexist.

Men have way to many excuses for their inappropriate responses to normal urges. We are all born with the ability to curb acting on impulse. Men have no excuse for not doing so when confronted with a female that attracts their sexual attention.

I think most of them do it, because for one, they get away with it or think they can get away with it, and two, because the behavior is encouraged by other men. When I see a woman walking on the sidewalk by herself I imagine how uncomfortable and vulnerable she might feel about any unwanted attention by men. Even the guys who gawk from behind the wheel - if they can only put themselves in her place. Part of the problem also is they believe that some women are looking for attention.

Women have the right to dress however they want, and feel sexy about it if they want, but that doesn't automatically give men the right to gawk, whistle, call out to them, etc. Imagine if the woman in such a situation is your wife or daughter, and they are walking on their way to an event that they dressed for. Do you think they would like that kind of attention?

And yet there are probably some women who have thankfully escaped such abuse.

This is such an unbelievably disgusting post. It doesn't surprise me that you're the one responsible for it. What a sad man.

When my friend was a freshman at college, virgin, she and her friends wanted to go out to a cool city party. So they put on makeup and dressed up in party dress, and got ready to go their first grown up party. Since these girls were just young things, I can imagine they were wearing skirts and tee-shirts. As they were walking down the street, some guy yelled out, 'These girls look like they wanna get f*cked tonight!'

My friend just wanted to look pretty, maybe talk to a boy.

I don't think most people who do it think about why they do it at all. Sadly, I think you are right, its down to upbringing. Some people simply do not have good role models that influence them positively during the formative years. I think it's a very small percentage of men that really do this stuff to any extent that actually results in high levels of discomfort for women. Mostly it's just an irritation and the passing thought that the guy should grow up but of course there are times and places were a woman or young girl can be made to feel very, very uncomfortable and that is inexcusable.

Unless you look like a photoshopped picture of Rosie, you deserve the harassment. And be sure that a man is going to try and define what 'harassment' is for you.

My mother and I, when I was around 16 or 17 , were walking down the street in downtown Ottawa. We passed a park where a lot of landscaping was being done - plenty of workers out doing various projects. It was summer, so I was just wearing a tank top and some shorts. Nothing extreme.

One guy, clearly old enough to be my father, screamed "Lady, if that's your kid, you shouldn't let your sl*t leave the house like that!" to my mom, causing one of his buddies to call me a tease.

It was disgusting and mortifying. I cried the whole way home on the bus.

The part in bold - if I had a dollar for every time I've heard that sentiment spoken, I could cure Danno's chauvanism. It's a bit ironic that men complain about not being able to read their spouse's minds, but are experts at knowing when a woman is signaling strange men to have sex with her.

And he thought he was providing public service. What a schmuck.
