This isn't patriotism

I think questioning your government and demanding accountability = patriotism/Americanism, and the Founding Fathers would agree. It's very dangerous when patriotism is defined as getting in line with a president, an idea, or a party.

So how does anything get done then. Imagine someone at your work constantly criticized everything you did and always tried to stop you from achieving anything because they disagreed with you..

Most other developed nations talk to each other and learn from each other. Whereas many here have the attitude of, well this is the US and bla bla bla.. Where has that attitude gotten this country so far, nowhere. And is further pushing it into chaos and poverty.. Like the fact that the US has the highest rate of child poverty in the developed world, excluding Mexico.

This stubbornness is a growing problem and is fueled by arrogance and ignorance from certain states. I would like to see the country get to where it was between the 40's to 80's rather than where it is heading now.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

it is during wartime. live with it.

so, then, that means that as long as the president can manipulate the ppl and congress to declare war, then he is above any questioning? if thats the case, then we will always be at war

Honestly Charles I have no idea how you arrived at the "Bush-bashing" post from this one. Keltic brought up a completely valid point. You don't have an answer for it so you chose the easiest answer (call her a name---Bashbot), didn't you?

i agree... most other developed nations also tend to have at least *some* form of democracy in how they run... even countries with monarchs are mostly just holding on to them for the history of it... they have active parliments of elected officials

i also think that a lot of americans are very arrogant and possibly ignorant of many things outside their own little bubble...

i still think it is dangerous to think that as USCs, we should not question our govt... there is corruption in govt, no matter whether its democrat/republican/whatevertheheckelseyouwanttothrowin... and if we arent careful enough, the corruption could take over to the point that it has in other countries where the citizens have not stood up for their rights... i wouldnt be happy to go back to a pure monarchy should some president decide that he is nero incarnated and is an emperor or something

i think that as USCs, we need to accept the responsibilities that go along with our rights... if we dont, we wont be able to *keep* our rights

First thing that needs to happen is that you guys stop voting idiots in. Be it Senators, Mayor, House rep etc.. There are idiots on both sides of the fence, republicans and democrats. You need to vote good honest people who have a love for this country and it's people. Rather than someone who tells you what you want to hear yet really only cares about their buddies and their own interests.

What I can not stand is seeing money wasted on ridiculous stuff while the country falls apart. Most schools and roads are run down and shocking here. Where the hell does the little money paid in taxes go?????

Curiously, the power to declare war is given to Congress, not the President, so I say question all the bastards all the time. And if you foul up a war that badly, you don't deserve to have people be quiet so you can concentrate because presidentin' is hard.

We still have a constitutional republic, right? Meaning the President works for us? Whence this 'let the big man be in charge and keep quiet so you don't distract him' nonsense? He works for me. And you. That means I get to question his job performance like any other employee.

Off the top of my head, Charles, nearly every president involved in a 'police action' since WWII.

Nixon wasn't a really good president either.

And he sure wasn't a crook...

Why? Not that the rest of the world thinks differently than that....

i agree... my vote is only one vote, but i use it! and i am not a member of the democrats or the republicans or the libertarians or any other group... i just listen to what the candidates say and check their records and such... unfortunately, usually the only folks that can afford to run have accepted money from someone who can at least put some pressure on them if not flat out pull their strings :(

yes, but we're referring to american presidents.

i'm still waiting for the goon squad to answer up.

what amazes me is how someone can make a comment like that and then proclaim it's not aimed at bush.
