It seems like there's a never-ending list of forms we have to fill out, but I'm glad that we're almost there. Almost.

I have my K1 consulate interview at the end of the month. My fiance and I will be married within days (court wedding) of me arriving and planning our 'party' for next year. I'd like to know how to best prepare myself for the next stage in our immigration journey. Like most things in life, but especially in immigration, being prepared not only cuts wait times but alleviates any potential delays.

What do I need in order to drive in the state of California? Once we're married, within the first few days of arriving and receive our marriage certificate, we will be applying for AOS immediately. What can I do to be prepared for AOS (EAD and AP)? What should I apply for first? SSN, AOS? I have read that once I apply for my AOS they will send me a NOA1... I could potentially go into one of the offices and see if they are available to do a walk in Biometrics? This could potentially cut my time if they can perform that and then wait for approval etc?

I will be leaving my job but have a number of employers lined up. My current employer and my previous employer are all based in California. I'd like to begin looking for work as soon as I can.

Thanks for all the help! I can't believe we're almost there...!! It feels like just yesterday (but not really... it's been a long time coming) that we had just sent our petition in.

1. Apply for SSN before or after marriage (that's up to you)

2. You can apply for driving license but it will expire when your I-94 expires.

3. File AOS

4. You need to wait until uscis notify you when you will have your bio and when you have the schedule then you can try to do the early walk-in like others had done (some successfully and some didn't)

5. You'll the EAD within 90 days

my plan of attack is i already have all forms AOS/EAD and supporting documentation pre-filled out as much as possible and ready to go. He arrives we get married, get marriage certificate in hand, go to ssn office get ssn, send in forms after triple checking, notify work of change of status and add him to my insurance, apply for community college while wait on EAD(might be too expensive but we will see), In Cali you can drive if you have a valid DL from another state or country. As soon as you get residency though you would need to apply for CA DL within 10 days. I'll have him start studying CA state manual though as soon as he arrives I dont want him to drive on the wrong side of the road lol.. he is afraid of that too haha.

I'm the USC.

Find a place that can get your marriage certificate to you on the same day, so you can file AOS right away. (Lompoc in Santa Barbara County is one).

Thank you! If we fly into LAX, we'll go directly there. Since it's a ways away from where we live. Do you know of any places in the Laguna/Santa Ana/Irvine area that does same day certificates?
