Passport Expiring at the end of 2014

Hello VJ peeps

My AOS package is being processed at the moment and I already got my fingerprint last February for the Employment Authorization. I know that I will get my EAD before end of May. However, my concern is the I-485 processing time. My passport is expiring on Dec 2014 and my plan is to wait for the green card to arrive before renewing my passport (with my married name on it) ....

I know that I-485 may take 8- 12 months to be approved and by then my passport will be expired. Should I apply for a new passport (with the married name on it) and send a new copy of my passport to the NBC where its being processed afterwards? Or wait til i get the greencard and apply for a new passport even if it has expired?

Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Regards

I don't think it matters at this point. You will only need a valid passport when you have to travel overseas. During AOS, it's only used as an identification and shows proof of your entry to US. Not sure how your country's embassy handles renewal of passport after marriage, but in any case, best to check with your embassy what the requirements for passport renewal now-ish, so you'll know when the time comes.
