How long does it take to get a work permit with the k1? I've seen that you can get it immediately & I've seen months so I'm confused. I figure my fiancé (then husband) won't get a good job right away, but at least a part time job to supplement my income...

Service Center: Texas Service Center

Transfer: California Service Center (2014-08-11)

Consulate: London, UK

NOA 1: 2014-04-23

NOA 2: 2014-09-15

NVC Case # Assigned: 2014-10-07

Consulate Received: 2014-10-10

Readiness Form Sent: 2014-10-30

Medical: 2014-11-10

Interview: 2014-12-19

Interview Result: missing paperwork. Took a few weeks for them to get back to his case because of the holidays.

K-1 Approval: 2015-01-15

Visa Received: 2015-01-21

US Entry: 2015-01-29

Marriage: 2015-04-23

Allow 90 days after you file to adjust, you may be lucky and get it sooner.

EAD approval can run between 2-3 months, or more depending on your case as Boiler mentioned. Not sure which part of the process you are in right now. Please fill-out your timeline. What you can do to expedite your fiance's / husband's work permit is to submit your AOS application with EAD/AP as soon as possible after the wedding.

You CAN file for an EAD right away before AOS, but it is a pointless waste of money. You have to pay $380 to file for it and will expire when his I-94 does. It has been taking 3-4 months lately to receive the EAD, so he would not have enough time to work before it would expire. Don't bother with that. File for it with the I-485 when the EAD and AP form fees are waived.
