By the way, for my 2013 tax return, I did file as single and not married even though I got married last June 2013. I know there's an issue about filing married either jointly(w/ ITIN) or separately(and put NRA on ss no box) and that were not supposed to file single. Trust me, I told my tax preparer about it.But she insist no, I should just file single now and then amend my tax soon as my husband get here and get his ss and were not gonna have a problem at the interview. And yes, she is right, during the interview, they didnt say anything bout my filing status. I guess they only look for my income and thats it. My husband's visa was approved. So I plan to amend my tax soon as my husband get here and when he received his ss.

got interested with your infos about this tax filing. just knew that my husband can file tax married separately and just put NRA, coz we're about to call the ssa to ask them if im eligible for a ss# or the itin#. right now we're just waiting for our case complete and we don't know if his transcript will be ready for the interview since we think this tax filing will take long because he really doesn't want to file single and pay more for his taxes instead of getting some money. my question is, would the embassy/consulate accept W2 together with the request for an extension letter for his 2013 tax return?

hoping for your response, thanks a lot. :)

Has anyone succeeded in rescheduling the interview for an earlier date?.. I contacted the embassy because i saw available time slots in ustraveldocs.com but they said i can't reschedule an interview scheduled by NVC using the site. If i call the NVC can they reschedule it? To me it doesn't make much sense to have those free time slots and not let anyone take them (because i don't see why they're keeping them).

I'm the beneficiary.

Want to know what's happening with your case? Here's the USCIS tracking page (get an account and see if the case's been 'touched'!). Don't get your hopes up though, some cases never even appear there despite being successfully processed.

The site specifies nonimmigrant visas, I'm not sure the available dates there apply to CR1/IR1 filers. I don't understand why embassies/consulates make so much info available for nonimmigrant visa interviews (including the K1) and nothing at all for us.

Actually you'd be surprised. In this site, when you log in, there's a panel on the left which among others includes the option "New Application/Schedule Appointment". When you click it, you have to select between "IV address registration", "Immigrant visa" and "Nonimmigrant visa". When you click the second option you have options "All Immigrant Visa Interviews Scheduling/Rescheduling Including Delivery Arrangement", "K Visas (Visa for fiancée(K1/K2), visa for spouses (K3/K4))" and "Registration of delivery address without scheduling an appointment". And if you go with the first option here you have to select visa type (CR1 and IR1 perfectly available) and then it displays date and time options. The only thing is: the call center tells me that if i use this it won't be valid against an NVC-scheduled appointment (which will ultimately win). This is where the frustration is coming from: the option is very much on the table. You just can't utilize it. When i checked dates the first available time slot was on 14th of april. Makes one heck of a difference compared to 20th of May, i say.

This site is also where you register the delivery address for when the immigrant visa is issued anyway.

I'm the beneficiary.

Hm, that's really interesting. Is the only option to navigate to account creation by selecting a country? When I click on Europe > UK it dead ends to a "the page you are looking for doesn't exist" error <_< I know the London embassy website itself only has scheduling info for nonimmigrant visas, so I assumed we'd be SOL everywhere.

You can file a 1040x (an amendment) and bring a photocopy of what you send to IRS along to the interview. All they really care about is the numbers so as long as the income number is the same on the 1040x as what you submitted to NVC then you will be fine.

On your 1040x all you need to change is the status. The easiest and quickest is to use Married Filing Seperately and put NRA (non-resident alien) in the SSN box. You could do this today if you wanted to. Just make a copy and bring along to interview.

As I said they are only interested in the figures, so make sure these are the same.

I'm also sure that they will be flexible with photocopies instead of transcripts in the months of April and May because some wont file 2013 until the last day (April 15th) and transcripts are not available until the return has been reviewed by IRS.

thank you for the infos. I know we will get as much $$$ if we file MFJ but I guess we don't have a choice but to go with MFS. what's the difference between the 2 in terms of money thing??? anyways thank you again and you're a big help. God bless :)

I don't know really, i only checked for Russia (naturally) and i've been registered in it since my first B1/B2 in 2010.

Yes you may bring the extension letter to the embassy during your interview or just like what TYorke1 said, just file your tax married filing separately and put NRA on the ssn box.

My husband had his medical exam in Amsterdam today. He said it went well, that the medical office would send the results directly to the Embassy. One week and one day to interview! :goofy:
