Super glue nightmare....

Well, I thought I would fix that piece of china that was accidentally broken during our Christmas party. I also felt good about the 6 pack of super glue I picked up for .99 cents..... See a problem yet?

So I decided to get started by using the cap to pierce the aluminum seal on the first tube and "Whoosh", the glue squirted all over my hand.....summarily gluing all my fingers together.. I thought, oh sh!t...

Then my wife was like, try my nail polish remover (containing acetone).. Well, that got about half of it off and unstuck my fingers. The rest will need to be scraped off over the next few days.

Advice: Don't by the cheap liquid super glue, buy the gel.... Hope the advice helps!

drug store nail polish remover contains acetone...but you can go get pure acetone which will sort you out. You can get some at a hardware store or a professional beauty supply, lol

girlfrmoz,

I cannot speak to the WWII use of superglue, but I do know that we now use a "medical grade" super glue for lacerations and other injuries typically requiring stitches. How widely is this process used? I don't really know, seems logical though.

It is currently being used.. rather a surgical grade form of super glue... ..

when my daughter fell off a cottage stone wall slicing her leg open.. they wanted to do stitches .. but being 4 yrs old at the time.. my god stitches.. the thought for her caused her to go into hysterics.. the docs instead decided on glueing her wound closed.. followed by some butterfly bandages.... .. only thing is now.. she does have a nice scar not as pretty as it would have been with stitches.. she is now 14 and remembers her fit. and wonders who she might not have such a big scar if she let them do the stitches. hahah.

My super glue story... hmmm. at age 13 i used to use a statue on my shelf to hide my $$... my sister thought it would be hillarous to glue all mystatues to the shelf... she never knew my money was hidden inside my statues.. there it sat for 6 more years .. till while i was in college.. my parents remodeled the room.. ohhh noooo.. my statues... .. to this day i could not remember the amount in hiding.. im sure it was less than $10 but a fortune to me back in the days..

And be sure to store away all the fine pieces of China before throwing a wild party. :P

That one is verrrry funny!!:lol:

I shouldn't be trusted with superglue - every time I've had to use it I've glued myself to something. My fingers together, my finger to the table, my finger to the kebab skewer I was using to pierce the superglue tube, my finger to the shoe I was trying to fix. Oh, and my finger to my face.

I've just remembered my 'favourite' superglue incident... many years ago, I was visiting a friend and a load of us were going out for her birthday. When we were en route from one bar to a club, the heel fell of my shoe in the middle of the street. A friend's boyfriend helpfully asked a passing policeman (in his van) if he knew of a late-opening shop where I could get some superglue to fix my shoe. He didn't. But when he drove past about 10 minutes later and found me still hobbling pathetically towards my destination, one shoe on and one shoe off, he took pity on me and insisted on driving me to some 24-hour garage miles away. I was sitting in the front of the van, there was a german shepherd (or two, I forget... either way, I didn't realise this 'til I had one stick its head over my shoulder and start panting in my ear) in the back, and the policeman was cheerfully telling me that he had some time to kill anyway, as he was due to go on a drugs raid later. All a very surreal experience in my slightly inebriated state - and one I'd forgotten about until all this discussion of superglue! (I got my superglue, and the policeman fixed my shoe for me - at least saving me from gluing myself to the dog, or something - before delivering me safely back to my friends, bless him!!)

Still not as impressive as gluing yourself to the steering wheel, mind!

When I was in the salon industry, at one of my stores there was a drycleaner a few stores down who used to play practical jokes on ppl. One day he calls up the store in an old lady's voice and tells the receptionist that 'she' got her nails done at the shop the day before, and went to bed at night, and when she woke up one of her acrylic nails was glued to the tip of her nose, hahahah

The receptionist was freaking out. It was really funny. I knew straightaway it was him cos there's no way that could happen...but the recept fell for it and it was really funny to watch.
