Once I knew NVC had my case I called once a week for the first three weeks. On the fourth week I called twice, the second time I got the case number and IIN. Since it *normally* takes about a month to get case number, I'd call once a week for the first few weeks just to check to see if you get it earlier. Near the month mark you can up the calling.

There's some members that call every day or various times a day. I don't have the patience for that  I'm hoping for case complete next week, I'm calling now and I'll probably call Thursday or Friday next week. That's it.

So basically- call as often as you want! Or as little as you want. But you do want to call to get the info since the emails come many days or even weeks later.

Your approach makes more sense to me rather than calling them up 2-3 times a week.

Since NVC is currently assigning case numbers in a month, I'll call them up once a week for the first 2-3 weeks just to see if they have assigned me a case number early. Yes, I'll probably call them more often from week 4. :clock:

I wish I could pay extra fee to get my case number early so I wouldn't have to call them up at all. They really need to offer an expedited service!

Snikit, don't panic. When you get your interview letter, you will be told EXACTLY what is necessary for your interview. All your original documents would have been forwarded to Sydney by NVC and will be returned to you. ALWAYS take a copy of all the documents, though.

Many of the consulates/embassies are WAY behind the times in their instructions.

I'll let you know what happens in our case - I think we are a little ahead of

Case complete as of this morning.....:dance::dance: hurray and thanks be to God and all VJ members for your support..

Horray!!!!!!!!!

hey friends .. we need ur helo .. finally yesterday night they unlock the status of our ds 261 payment to pay .. but when we tried to pay after clicking the payment the next page is showing eror that no data recieved .. does any body knows its a broswer problem or ceac site problem? . while we checked both explorer and google chrom .. thanks ..

Just to clarify, you're paying the AOS fee, not the DS 261 fee:)

Some questions you've asked make me wonder if you've read saylin's wiki yet.... http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Hello VJers,

I have a question about the AOS package.

I am living in Serbia with my husband. We are waiting for NVC to receive our case. I do not qualify for supporting my husband. My father (living in the US) is going to cosponsor. Here's the question: Can I send him the link to the I-864 and have him fill it out and send it to me (with supporting documents) now? I know we still have a while until we will send in our AOS package, but I want to send all documents together. Plus my father will be traveling soon and now seems to be the best time to have him fill it out. Any thoughts? If I do have him fill it out now, should I have him leave the date blank and I can fill it in when I receive it?

Thank you so much!

I don't see why it can't be filled out completely including the date.

I have a question regarding which form to use for the AOS. I am well aware that in Saylin's Wiki it says:

Which I-864 Form to Use

If you look at the USCIS website, there are a multitude of I-864 forms listed: I-864, I-864EZ, I-864A, I-864W, and even I-864P.

The I-864 is the most common of the forms used. This is what petitioners and joint sponsors use.

The I-864EZ has three different criteria points that need to be met before a petitioner can use it. Remember, if you do meet all the criteria, it doesn't mean you have to use it; you can still use the I-864 if you wish. But, since the I-864EZ is shorter (and thus easier) to fill out, if you can use it, I suggest it as there's lower chances of messing up and getting a checklist.

The I-864A is used for household members of sponsors. Typically, the only time I recommend using the I-864A is for spouses of joint sponsors who are deciding to contribute their income as well. So, in these cases, the petitioner would file an I-864, the main joint sponsor would file an I-864 as well, and then the joint sponsor's spouse would file an I-864A.

The I-864W is rarely used. The only time I see it used is for children immigrating (with one of their parents) who will become US citizens upon POE. Please read the I-864W and its instructions for more information.

The I-864P, which really isn't a form, is the poverty guidelines and is used to see how much income is needed for different household sizes.

I am the petitioner filing for my spouse but I don't have any income, as I am living in Mexico with my spouse. My sister will be our joint sponsor. According to what it says here from Saylin's Wiki, my sister should also file the I-864 just like I will? Before, I was under the impression that all joint sponsors file the I-864A. Would someone please be able to clarify this for me? Thank you. :)

Joint sponsors fill out an I864a if they are part of the household or combining income only. It sounds like your sister needs to fill out the full I864.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have waited for over a year to say this!!! I literally just screamed and did a cartwheel at work! :dancing:

CASE COMPLETE!!!!!!!

I emailed on Wednesday and put it to the attention of the DR and requested an immediate review of both cases for their #######-up of the civil documents. I don't know if it did anything but they case completed both parents yesterday! Jenny gave me the good news and I may have deafened her if any of y'all talk to her today ;)

Fabulous news!!!!!

Case complete as of April 22nd. Thanks for your help S.

Congratulations!!!!

Question: :huh2:

Someone told me that you'll receive a notification email when NVC assigns you a case number (assuming you have called them up to give them your email address).

I believe you may have misunderstood, as you give them your email address at the same time as you get your case number.

Hello Everyone,

First of all, congratulations to everyone who receive case complete today!! What a great way to start the weekend.

Secondly, allow me to join the celebration because I also just received my CASE COMPLETE for both my wife and daughter!!!! :dancing: :joy:

Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank you guys for the support and the fun in this forum. Thank you to our dear fairy Saylin for writing such a wonderful NVC guide that taught me all the tricks. Thank you also to Kaylara and BOS_LHR for your guidance in the June I-130 forum. Thank you Changnoi for your support and your jokes. And everyone else who unknowingly helped me, because all of my questions were already answered by others who shared their experiences in here.

If you allow me, I would love to continue paying it forward as many of you already do.

So happy right now!!!

Congratulations to the three of you!!!:)

You need to provide original documents to NVC. That being said, if you are applying from Australia (which your flag suggests you are) then it will be forwarded directly to the consulate in Sydney from the police station prior to your interview (you will not receive a copy). If you check the regional forums you will see that there are some differences depending on where you are in Aus and whether you order a federal or state police check.

NVC seem to be across this and I haven't seen anyone have any issues when they haven't sent it with their IV package. You will need to wait until you have a case number to request the check otherwise it will be sent to NVC without any reference to your case (and could be discarded). I have heard that a few others on VJ put a note n the covering letter of their IV package stating that it had been requested and sent directly to the consulate just to cover themselves. I believe it can take 2-3 weeks so best to order it as soon as you have your case number.

Thank you!

You'll find out from this thread and this website that what you hear from calling the NVC is not exactly accurate - they have a pre-determined statement they have to give callers.

I suggest you read the very first post in this thread and the links, especially the Wiki. Then post further questions which others here can help you with. Reading posters' timelines and signatures will also help you see how long things take. I didn't check yours, but be sure to have both, as it will help others see your details which means more accurate advice:)

Straight quote from Saylin's wiki:

Note: the two packages (AOS and IV) can either be mailed separately or together. Either one works. Again, as

long as NVC receives it, that's all that matters. If you do decide to mail them together, I suggest putting each in a separate manila envelope (and clearly mark it and write "AOS" or "IV" on each one), then putting both manila envelopes inside the shipping envelope.

Thanks!!

If you mailed originals plus photocopies, then you'll receive your originals back at the interview. If you didn't also send photocopies, then take some with you to exchange with the Interviewer. Those doing EP would certainly take along their originals.

Everything at NVC must be original or certified copy. Is it not possible to get two copies of the PCC? We did that. One we sent to NVC, the other she will be carrying with her to the interview.

Many thanks.

To my fellow Australians,

I just read the information that the embassy in Canberra has on their website about the immigrant visa process and they have a very different set of instructions: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/appr_pet_family.html

Has anyone read this? I'm thinking maybe it's outdated because it says to file a ds2001 with the i864 and ds230 + supporting documents straight to the embassy in Sydney. What do you make of that?

It also says to include an original birth certificate for all children even if they aren't immigrating and also for the spouse/partner, so I'm wondering if I should add these to my IV package. What do you think?

Hi there

This is your friend from fellow Adelaide. We have a lawyer and they said this week that we didn't have to send our documents to NVC. Rather they would be sent to Consulate. Upon further research though they agreed that yes we do submit to NVC. I am thinking this info might be out of date. Don't quote me though. Or it could be that under different circumstances some people to go to submit to Consulate. Perhaps if you are applying for I-130 from Australia. Just a thought!!
