Hello all, been following and learning a lot from this lively and informative thread for a couple of weeks now...

Old undocumented speeding arrest case and DS-260 form

My wife was arrested over 20 years ago for speeding while in Colorado on a tourist visa. We're having a dilemma regarding the question on any previous arrests in the DS-260 form. Answering NO would apparently be untruthful. However, we don't have any records of the case (she was released later that day and the District Attorney's office had the case dismissed a few days later). We contacted the same District Attorney's office and they confirmed they had no record of the case in their paper files for that year, and their computer records do no go that far back. A paid background check with the formal Colorado agency returned nothing either.

Any suggestions how to proceed with that DS-260 question? Would the above be grounds enough to answer NO? Our main concern with answering YES while unable to provide any records is that it would cause an indefinite derailment of the NVC process.

For the record, my wife since then had received another B1/B2 visa and travelled to the US and to Colorado multiple times with no issues whatsoever.

any downside to sending your IV packet as soon as you have the coversheet (and not waiting for it to say 'paid')?

Use IE for sure.....

As long as you get the screen showing the

transaction ID after payment you are all good

I shipped mine within 1 hour of making the payment.

You have shipping time, plus 3 or 4 days for

it to be entered into their system.

There is plenty of time for the payment to be debited.

You can wait until it is taken from your account

but you will loose valuable time.

When you imagine the thousands of packets that are

pouring into NVC each day, it is all about getting in

the line ASAP.

ultimately you are trying to get in the scheduling session

for an interview and a few days lost here could delay you a month there !!

just talked to Amanda.. There is not a computer glitch at the NVC... she said they had high winds yesterday and it might have caused a problem but they are fully operational tonight, It was only delaying the payments.... nothing else.

She explained the interview scheduling to me. Costa Rica is not a country that has a lot of calls coming in. GOOD for me !!

I should hear something next week

someone actually picks up the physical file and processes it. I asked her if everything was scanned or just the coversheet... Just the coversheet...

She asked me if I was the law office... I had to laugh... I told her I can't get them to wrk for me on normal business hours... they wouldn't be calling at 9:30 pm.. She was laughing... What a nice person ..She said I sound so professional....

After dimwit bureaucrats, ridiculous backlogs, files getting lost between the cis and the nvc offices and waiting to pay for an eternity, we are being subdued by something that does not even have a physical presence.

I was able to get the payment in - after checking ALL DAY yesterday and today it finally allowed me to PAY THEM $460!!

I guess I should call them and say THANKS!!

Were you the member that had the issue with the lawyer sending your packets via regular mail? If so, I am so glad that ended well.

I didn't catch the name of the person I spoke to, but she told me my AOS was accepted, and then that it wasn't reviewed, and then that it was, and then that I had never had a checklist in the first place (what?) and then that everything was good. I'm so confused now and don't have time to call back.

Both my packets were received on the 15th.

I call that $165 the Immigrant Extortion Fee :-D

and when you LEAVE Honduras (specifically) you pay another EXIT TAX - of $60 or $70 dollars-- no fee to enter just a fee to leave!! lol--

you think with all these applications and all these fees they could afford to hire people necessary to handle the workload- but I am sure $$ gets siphoned off for other govnmt programs..

All said and done after a while the FEES are of no meaning or consequence so frustrated with everything else just happy to PAY and move on..

Will even PAY FULL PRICE for airline ticket becasue we cant PLAN AHEAD..
