Hi, did you receive that famous IV fee mail, because i submitted the DS261 form on march 24, IV fee unlocked since march 25, called many times, and all i get was wait 30 business days, lately it will be any day soon...

thanx

They did not give the standard "30 days" . You have been waiting too long it would seem. She seemed sure it was something that had happened to them in the past few days. I would think they should have allowed you to pay some time ago. Maybe it would be a good idea for you to print the invoice and mail it in. If nothing happens by Monday, I'll kiss another $20 goodbye doing just that with overnight priority.

I see. They did not give you the email with the invoice. You should have received that. They sent the email wanting payment on the 22nd of April for us. I would definitely ask them about the email, at least. Sorry you are going through such BS. It seems that all any of us can do is hope we're not the recipient of one of their mistakes. It's too bad we can't for ask customer reps by name. Maybe you can get lucky and get Jim on the phone tonight.

I feel bad being so impatient when others have gone through worse. it's not a good time for any of us.

I think someone recently posted that they got checklisted even though they had a US address, US bank account, driver's license, etc. :dead:

I guess it's because anyone can get a US address (renting a PO Box), US bank account, and driver's license (once they lived in the US).

I don't know what else you can do besides moving back to the US now and landing a job.

I'm in a similar situation since my partner and I both live outside of the US. We're planning to mail the following:

- Letter from my partner's US employer stating he will be working from Seattle (telecommuting)

- Buyer's agency agreement from a real estate agent from Seattle (we hired him as a buyer's agent to buy a house in Seattle)

- Letter from a seller's agent to sell our townhouse in Vancouver, BC (we're selling our townhouse in order to move to the US)

- US bank account

- US address (PO Box)

- Voter registration

- US tax transcripts (2013, 2012, and 2011)

Fingers crossed that we won't get checklisted!

Hmmm...before coming to Mexico, I lived at the address for my whole life (25 years in the U.S.). haha It's not like I went and bought a P.O. Box. My parents still live there, too. I will also be renewing my driver's license when I go to visit my family in June. That should be good evidence too, right?

It looks like you should be good to go with all of your proofs. :)

You'll also have to pass Montreal's inspection. If Montreal is tough on one thing, it's domicile. I highly suggest you check out the pinned thread on that very subject in the Canadian regional forums. Good luck.

Thanks Saylin! Yes, it looks like Montreal is tough on domicile. Lucky me! NOT! :bonk:

For NVC, we can demonstrate that my partner will have a job in the US and we're selling our house in Vancouver, BC.

For the interview at Montreal Consulate, we've decided to rent a short-term rental in Seattle (we'll be staying there until we buy a house in Seattle) and provide a lease in the interview just to be on the safe side. It looks like the most important parts for demonstrating the US domicile are job and lease. Fingers crossed!

I know, it was easy at first but it seems everyone is calling at night so they lines are totally locked up and you can't get through. Maybe if you call at 10 it would be better. :) Last person I talked to was Jim he's a nice guy very helpful and professional. :)(F) (F)

Are you and your partner planning to live with your parents in the US? If so, you may want to explain the reason you're planning to live with your parents. For example, your parents have some medical issues or are in their 70s or 80s and need caregivers, and you and your partners will be their caregivers.

Otherwise, they may question if you're using your parents' address to demonstrate your US domicile. If you're over 25 years old and are recently married, I'd think you and your partner don't usually live with your parents. However, everyone's situation is unique and different so I don't know. :dead:

I just did a quick search on domicile. It looks like the most important issues to demonstrate the US domicile are job and lease. <_<

Another thing to worry about for us since we are filing outside of the US! :bonk:

We don't plan on living with my parents but I saw some posts on VJ where people were saying they were going to have their parents write a letter, saying that they would all the couple to live at their address UNTIL they find an apartment or house.

I would think with my recently renewed driver's license with that address, voter's registration card, student loan statement, credit card statements, and bank account statement that it should be sufficient, at least I hope.

Anyone else reading this that is also in this situation?
