Hi!

I applied for tourist visa last month, in february, i want to go visit my brothers and sisters who are in new york. We are a family of six children, they all are in usa since more than 10 years. i am the little one, i live in dakar with my dad and my mom. Every two years my parents go visit them and i wanted to go this summer but i was denied two weeks ago. They said i never leave senegal, i need to travel at least one time and they gonna give me the visa. What do you think? is anyone in the same case than me? in what country do i need to go?

Sorry, i don't speak english very well. i really need answers

How did they all established themselves in the US?

Do you have any meaningful employment that might be considered as a strong reason to return to Dakar?

Did your siblings go as tourists and then stay? (that might work against you)

Other really strong reasons you might have for returning to Dakar?

Merely traveling to a neighboring country or possibly even the EU won't be worth much, as the rules for obtaining a visa are far different than those of the US.

Traveling somewhere else first does show a general pattern of following the rules and being a tourist. If they suggested that you need to travel somewhere else to make your case stronger, then I would plan a vacation.

If a person has never traveled anywhere it is unlikely the US would let it be the first country the person goes to.

Hi @RhettVoe

My father use to live in USA in 1979, he has a us citizen. he came back in Senegal in 1995 and decide to stay in Senegal and just go to visit his child. My mom she didn't has a citizenship but she always go as tourist. My brothers all have citizenship because of my dad but my sisters got married and go join her husbands. They are two! I was studying, now I got my master and I am working. I am the one who take care of my parents, I have my life here and my father will never accept that I leave him without married. (Lol) I really can't stay in United States for many reason. I swear I just wanna go to visit my family and the country too. I explain all this to the . But they just say "you never go anywhere, you have to travel one time at least in a different country and when you come back we gonna give you the visa"

I was mad, I even not ask them where for example and people tell me it's the first time they hear that

They want to see that yu have traveled before and abided by the rules.. I say make a short "tourist visit" to somewhere and reapply with all you proof of returning. Granting a visa is at the discretion of the C/O and you must satisfy them that you will return... Otherwise, no amount of complaining will get you a visa.

Their suggestion is not a guarantee of a future visa, but you can see why they are hesitant to accept you as is.

So, I would go somewhere you want to go, for your own self. Don't try to guess what they want, just go have fun. Life is short and it's a big world out there :)

When you do travel given what they said I would be very specific with the immigration in whatever country you go to. Specifically I would make sure that your passport is stamped on entry and exit or if they give you landing slips that you save those as proof of travel. Good luck, my financee applied for a tourist visa as was denied because she had traveled too much so it really is at the discretion of the office at your interview.
